I had the 2008 535i and the pump went out 3 times.

In California that qualified it for the Lemon Law.

I called BMW North America, told them of the issue, they reviewed my repair history and within 4 weeks wrote me a check for everything I paid on the car including interest on my loan.

The check was for $32k.

I could have walked away but then got a sweet 2011 335i and I love this car!

Cheers!
Is this only if you've purchased the car brand new? So if I purchased my 335xi used and the pump went out multiple times would BMW do the same or is it only for the 1st owner?

I talked to my SA and he said they wont change my HPFP until it fails and throws a code. But it's having very long starts and it's embarrassing. What can I do to get him to change it?

I told him that on the phone and he said there are no recalls showing for the car. I have heard of people getting it changed out of goodwill even with no codes showing, how do they get that done?

My 2010 335xi (E90) with 31k miles just recently had a HPFP failure, a week before the standard warranty expired.

I've recently noticed a noise coming from the passenger side foot well area. It's a hard sound to describe but it's quite noticeable.

I took it to BMW and they said they would need to replace the fuel pump and a fuel line. I'm not having any problems starting the car and there are no error lights, so I don't know if this is a problem related to this thread. Could the noise I'm hearing be the start of the problem?

I am currently looking into getting a 07-08 335i coupe.

I am looking for a car with less than 90K miles on it.

So lets say I get one and my fuel pump fails. Will BMW Warranty it? I wouldn't be the original owner, how does that work?

Thanks

All this whining about the hpfp

I just got mine done by the main dealer in Swindon and it cost me £570, which is nothing if you can afford a car like this, I'm glad that people post about the problem as then you know what it is then, but I wish they would be more explicit about the costs.
All the forum posts put me off getting it done when it first showed the signs, but now I wished I had got it done straightaway as it's no big deal. Damn the brake pads and discs nearly cost this to replace at the dealers.
It should definitely not put you off buying this car, even if you have to change it every 3 years or so, but then i expect bmw refund a fair bit back anyway.

2009 335i coupe Fuel pump failure

2009 e92 coupe fuel pump failed even after so called "replacement" from Boston area dealer. Car has 34,340 miles so it isn't as though car is driven alot.
Either the dealer falsified replacement documentation or replacement pump is faulty as well.

HPFP fun

My 2008 335i just started doing the rough running with sel when the throttle is over 50% but would reset if you let off with no codes. Today it went into limp/half engine and stayed. It finally coded which I read with the jb4. JB4 only on in the last 4 months. No slow crank.

On a long shot I reset the codes twice and it started running again though presumably with the same problem as it had before. It is a CPO car and is already on it's third pump in 77k miles and the injectors have been replaced twice. Only Shell fuel, no ethanol .

I'm going to move some parts and see if the codes move but it is 3 cylinders plus a sum error. The problem with taking it to a dealer is that if it's not a hpfp problem and the injectors, coilpacks, etc are the problem, you're in for a big bill and they often troubleshoot by replacing lots of stuff when they don't actually know what it is.

Any ideas how to test a 3000psi pump or at least isolate the problem?

I will now be on my second pump. it is bring replaced as I type this by my bmw center. my car only has 16k on the clock and slready had new injectors and plugs replaced 2 months ago. I noticed fluctuating idle on a cold start and while driving the car would buck and the acceleration lethargic with no turbo sensation.

Hello still kinda new here and have a few question as i just bought my 2007 BMW 335i. 62k miles

Its takes a couple cranks to start up every now and then i was thinking its the HPFP and wondering if i can take it in to BMW for the recall as i am the second owner of the car and have no clue if it already went in for recall once.
What do you guys suggest????

Thank you so much,
appreciate any help.

It's not a recall, just a warranty extension. It doesn't matter what # owner you are. If it's the hpfp and your still within 112k then you're good. They should replace it under warranty.

It was a HPFP failure. The noise sounded like it came from the passenger foot well/ door. Evident at idle more than high revs. A kind of intermittent scraping sound.

I'm a little late to this thread but I have an 07 335i, today I turned my car and instantly got the yellow half engine light on my dash, long crank, and extremely rough idle. I'm sure it is the HPFP but after turning the car off and on a couple times and eventually the engine warming up it stopped doing. If I go turn my car on right now it won't do it.

Is it possible that BMW will replace it under warranty even if the long crank/check engine light/rough idle aren't there? I don't think it's been changed before and I would really like to have it changed.

Don't you guys pull your codes on your car to diag it? Buy a simple $30 ebay coding cable and get the free BMWLogger software made by Smooth1 here on the forums. Pull your codes and it will tell you exactly what the car is upset about. It's the same things the dealership will do and with a little googling you can see the fix based on the codes you are getting. Once you get a code that's common for the HPFP issue, then you call around to your local BMW deaelrship service departments and say:

"Hey my Indy mechanic pull the following codes: XXXX, YYYY, ZZZZ... he said that should be an issue with my HPFP and it should have a 10 year/120,000 mile extended warranty on my car. Can you pull up the DAVIS report using the last five digits of my VIN to see the recall campaigns that are open on my car. <listening to his reply> Oh you don't say, I have HPFP open recall, an 8 year / 82,000 mile wastegate rattle recall, and a battery power distribution block recall open on my car... well sign me up for the free loaner, free tow, free coffee/water/bagel/donut, and free repair cuz I need all that fixed my friend."
