Updated DME software

This guy posted something about updated DME Software fixing wastegate rattle. I'm wondering if I should look into having this done/ if I qualify to have it done. Especially since this guy was turned away from the wastegate warranty because of outdated DME software.

Here's the quote

He notified me of SI B 11 13 07 (Attached)

Said that my car doesn't qualify for SI B 01 02 12 because of an outdated DME software. Mine is 06-12-510, needs to be 08-03-530 or higher.

The damage is as follows, 210.00 for the diagnostic + 2 hours of labor to reprogram= $480.00

Said that if problem is not fixed by the DME update, then they will proceed with SI B 01 02 12

They are keeping the car overnight, and will start programming tomorrow morning.

There is coding available for 07-08 N54s. If your wastegates aren't too far gone the coding does work. It worked for a few on my car and then went back to rattling again after a few months. You can also adjust the wastegate rattle through the JB4.

Wasn't BMW in trouble because their software *fix* actually made the car slower? Correct me if I'm wrong.

There was nothing to be in "trouble" over. It was just that some people opted to keep the rattle in favor decreasing the slight increase in turbo lag that was created by the "fix". My understanding of it anyway.

Interesting. My rattle is pretty normal, every once in a while it will clank when I shut the car down. I'd rather take preventative action since I'm at 75k and don't have much time left until I reach 82k. I don't really want the turbo wastegates to fail after I go over 82k.

I have a friend locally that is a pro with the JB4, so maybe I can ask him.
