DCT owners need your help!! Is this slip???!

900 miles on my 335IS. Just added JB4 and it is running great until today.. Seems to be slipping at anything over 15psi. Does the DCT break in and grab harder at the 1200 mi mark? Here is a vid:

Not a good plan to be pushing the car with a JB4 before its finished its factory set break-in. The factory software limits boost till just over 1200 miles & you are over riding the program.

I put my JB4 in at 1400 miles & have not had any issues @ 16.5 psi.

There is no boost limit during the break in period. Only launch control is limited till you get to 1200 miles. There is no DCT break in as it is a wet clutch.

Break in period on your IS is 1300 miles. The DCT has not fully adapted yet so of course your going to get slippage and a TM error obvioulsy due to overheating from slippage

You shouldnt even be running a tune prior to break in period. Your just making things worse running the tune before break in period.

Even after the break in period you have to "progressively" work the DCT with the increased of power. You just cant install a new tune and then WOT. You will still get slippage. The controller learns and then adapts by applying more bar pressure to clutches to accommodate the power.

For every significant add in power you have to "progressively" work the DCT for it to adapt

This is car is not like an automatic so dont treat it like one

+1 Way too early to tune the car.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. I am a bit relieved to hear that it will adapt and improve. My early install was with Terry's blessing. With that said I have done no hard launches or redline runs.

For the moment I dialed back my JB4 to map 1 or 2. This is my third BMW w/JB4, but first time with DCT. Thanks for the input!

you should dial it back to map 0/4 for the remainder of break in. Not sure how many more people need to tell you how detrimental tuning the car during break in.

Hotrod182 didn't believe in a break-in and beat his car every second he drove it. Almost never had an issue and it was one of the fastest n54's on the track...

Good for Hotrod182. Just because he may have gotten away with it does not make it a good idea.

Its interesting to see how many non-engineers on the internet know way more about the cars then the ones who design, test & build them. The flog it out the door is an urban legend created by a guy who builds racing engines for motorcycle & wrote a good piece for the net.

Thing is most race engines get rebuilt on a regular bases, Top Fuel between every round, & are not expected to last for a good number of years.

BTW break-in is not just about the engine its also about the clutches , trans, center section, brakes, tires etc. Think the OP has learned about breaking in the trans.
