I have a set of 4 winter tires taking up room in my garage. I have them listed on Craigslist for $200, but if anyone here wants them, I'll sell for $175. Goodyear Nordics - 175/65R14

Well, the Lambo is being sold. I just checked my bank account and the wire for the deposit went through. Looks like I'll be out at C&C in the BMW this weekend rather than the Balboni.

What kind of Lambo?

If the sale falls through for my exhaust, are you interested?

A Gallardo Valentino Balboni. Probably not on the exhaust... it looks to be in rough shape.

It is stainless piping. Any brand exhaust, whether it costs $10,000 or $500, in Ohio weather will look like that after a week. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it so I'm not sure what the worries are. Anyways as of right now the buyer said he is still coming. I just like to prepare for flakers.

That's stainless. It's covered in rust. Stainless steel isn't supposed to rust. The only way it's going to rust that bad is if it's been run through salt on a regular basis. I don't really drive my car in the winter and if I were to buy an exhaust, I wouldn't want to worry about it ended up with a hole in it within the first year.

Not that it matters since it is now sold, but I don't think that is rust? And all stainless will eventually surface rust no matter what, regardless of if the car is driven in the winter or not... There is moisture in the air and in the winter salt gets in the moisture as well. Whether you live on the beach or in northern Canada, stainless will surface rust...

The very definition of stainless steel is that it doesn't readily rust, corrode, or stain with water the way normal steel does. It will rust in environments with low oxygen or high salinity though.

Moisture in the air won't rust it. I worked offshore in the Gulf of Mexico for over decade, and stainless didn't rust out there unless it was shitty steel or you had damaged it enough and dropped it in the Gulf long enough to force it to. Just moisture in the air, and even on a beach with sea spray, will not rust stainless steel.

In this case, you can see how there's a lot of oxidation right where the exhaust connects to the downpipes. That's because there's a lot of heat in that area, and temperatures greater than 800ºF can cause a metallurgical change in the stainless steel that will form that oxide layer. If it's not regularly removed, it will continue to eat through the steel until there's a giant hole there.

This is the reason why titanium exhausts are becoming popular. Titanium has a much higher corrosion resistance when heated than stainless steel, not to mention it's a lot lighter. The problem is, it's much more expensive.

EDIT: Here's some more info for you about rusting stainless exhausts.

My stainless exhause did nothing but turn purple after the downpipes after 8 years. Never was in salt though. Die can attest to that on mine.

Either way, it is not in "rough" shape.... It is just surprising as it was like that when I got it an I ran it for a year, without any change. And my buddy that I bought it from got it brand new and he lives in Tennessee.

Had a decent turn out of BMWs yesterday! If I get my car back from Kelly this week, I'll go out next weekend and bring my laptop with me. If anyone's looking to get some coding done, come on out (weather permitting).
