I am glad I did not get the 335 with all of the issues I am reading (fuel pump alone)
Also, I am happy that my car (May 2005) had absolutely no issues...

I have not seen any oil leaking from my car at any times before taking it in for service. The techs found oil in different parts of the engine and found that the source of the oil was coming through the turbos. My SA is the one who told me that the turbos cost about $3k. I have 12k miles on my 335 and this is the first problem it's had. While he was doing the paper work for my car, I asked how long the waiting list is for the M3...-reply to a few people's comments

Nothing to worry about. The intake tract hoses will always have a small amount of oil in them. Now, if you were to pour a quart of oil out of the hose when you pulled it off, that is another story.

Oil blow-by? Can't see the pic. Sounds normal, though. I would imagine a catch can would solve it if it really annoys you.

That's weird that they did not do anything about it then. My SA told me that after finding the leak, they were not allowed to give me my car back until the problem was resolved.

I wonder why all the bad turbo's are around central florida....

Im guessing your car is at Fields? I used to work there and before I left in may we had about 2-3 335's that had bad rear turbo's.

Then at my new dealer, so far i've seen a 535i with less than 200 miles have a rear wastegate not properly adjusted causing a boost leak..

No the engine doesnt have to be pulled out to replace the turbo. I've seen some guys lower the front subframe, but I did it on the 535 with the subframe in. I dont know how your turbo will be in in a few days cause I had to wait about a month for the one I replaced...

thats because they actually found the source of the leak meaning they took a bunch of parts off the car to find it. so if it was just put back together and let go the tech wouldnt get paid for all that time

btw- who was your service advisor?

My SA is Norris Daniels. He said that as soon as BMWNA approves the fix they can get the parts in next day. I hope this is the truth.

Cool, tell him Chino with the 335 that used to work there says wuts up!

My advice, ask him to ask the parts guy to check the availability on the turbo. Thats the surest way to find out if it will be in the next day or not. Hope everything works out for you man

it wasn't at the dealer, just a local shop that did the install. i have yet to take it in, i have just been suddenly worried by reading this thread.

1 - The oil filter cooler--I took a look in the 2007 engine management .pdf and didn't see it on this motor. Basically coolant was circulated through a mount that the oil filter attached to and sometimes the gasket between the mount and the block would fail.

2 - Flywheel housing oil return - This is a weird on and again I'm unsure if our motors have this. Any oil that leaked through the crank into the flywheel housing was allowed to drip down into the oil pan through a return. Audi actually used the flywheel housing as a coolant passage and sometimes the seal between the block and the transmission allowing coolant to also drip into the oil pan.

Thats always difficult to have a customer see a car completely apart. We had an X5 in the shop that needed a body harness replaced. Everything has to come out, and customers will stare in awe about all the things placed outside the car. We usually make a joke and say "we are gonna find that rattle!"
Yeah, one of my techs had the evaporator out of an E38 the other day (if you've been there then you know) and the customer wanted to come get something out of the car. I told the writer to ask him what he wanted and we would get it for him. We'd be chasing phantom rattles on that car for the rest of it's life if the customer had seen that car torn down to the firewall.

Pulling the turbo's off really isn't a big deal, they'll get the new one on and everything will be all good. BTW, I've seen a couple of cars leak oil from the rear oil return tube where it goes into the block. On those particular cars the o-ring that seals the tube to the block got pinched at the factory causing the oil leak.

I think its the greatest when you have to pull a motor. I had a tech pull a 760Li engine to replace the heads a few months ago... Really funny to see such an opening!

Oh and BTW OP, I checked and DCS shows a couple turbos in the USA so the wait shouldnt be terribly long.

My SA called me today, he said they all the parts including the turbo in stock. If all goes well, I should have my car by tomorrow. A week to get the ok and replace the turbo seems pretty good to me!
