Works very well according to someone who has had it done, and BMW service has no problems with it,so yes,at under a ton,go for it. Alternatively, you could do what others have done for £000.00

If you can change a bulb, then you can hide your obd port. Search for the method on this forum. Carlos, Ian is referring to disable / relocate OBD port yourself.

Yes jason does this job. Given past history I didn't want any wankerrs in this thread telling me off for recommending him but he can do this. Either drop the car to him or a while you wait as it's about 90mins work I believe.
He's got a seating area / vending machine etc

Mega,
I'm in SW London and know plenty of folk who are repeat customers of Jason @ BW and have been picking his brains abt remapping my wife's tiguan. Top bloke in my opinion so no grumbles for you pointing me in his direction for my Beemer obd mod. Thanks |

I've had cooks ferry mod done, not seen the proof it works but Pat @ CF tells me they test it as part of the install.
I'm just hoping it doesn't invalidate warranty as mine still has 20 months to go. However, assuming it works it's quick, clean and if it keeps your P & J on your driveway then it's gotta be worth 95 notes Garry |

quick question, is there a limit to how long you can make the obd cable (like a usb limit), and how many separate wires goto the obd port?
seems like it would be very easy to make a separate switch that kills the obd function. i guess you may only have to kill one wire (power?) - any clues?

There is no 'power' to cut, nor any OBD 'function' (OBD just means on-board-diagnostics) There are 16 pin positions in an OBDII socket, but only about 10ish are used in a BMW. (the pinout is standard for all OBDII cars worldwide, some may use more or less pins, but the positions are fixed) The vital CANbus pair (pins 6&14) are the ones that provide the necessary data comms with all OBDII vehicles, so would be that wire pair to cut back in the loom via a switch if you wanted to. You have to cut / extend both wires as its a balanced pair network that needs them to have very similar length/resistance. Just google 'OBDII pinouts', and there's loads to read. |
