Under bonnet infestation
Hi folks,
Just took a call from the dealer as my car is for MOT and some warranty work + having BMWP rear diffuser fitted. Service tech advised me that I've got pest control problem under the bonnet. Engine cover insulation is all but gone and some wires chewed. Anyone else had a vermin problem ? If so any advice as to how best to deal with it appreciated. Rat poison in the suspension strust perhaps !!!??? Needless to say the warranty doesn't cover this type of event......so bill could be painful Dave |

Oh dear!
Rat poison on hot components not good. The fumes could end up in the cabin. Physical traps are a much better idea. Or sticky paper (stronger than fly paper) to trap them in place..

LOL - How often do you open your bonnet???
Is he saying they're living on your car, or living in your garage and popping into your engine bay when they're a bit peckish? |

My daughter asked me to look at her car a couple of years back because it was running like a bag of spanners. On investigation we found half a bag of chips dragged up the back of the engine, one HT cable had been nibbled in half & the others all had chunks missing - the cam cover was also covered in baked on mouse/rat sh1t. We put rat poison in small metal dishes stuck around the inner wings & bulheads etc - it took a few weeks to get rid of the creaures altogether but it worked in the end

When I bought my car earlier this year I took it in to have new air vents fitted. The dealer said I had mice living in the dash. They had to pull a ton of chewed up paper from inside the ventilation system.I presume it had been parked up in a field for some time.Every time I put the fan on little pieces of paper blew out for ages afterwards.Luckily I haven't had any other problems from it.

DB,
Bonnet gets lifted often enough and there's no visible signs when viewing the engine bay. Problem is under the engine cover which I've no reason to remove so far.......... Car is kept outside, so maybe it's the rodent equivalent of urban foxes, eh? PD |

Foxes climb all over my car I've got scratches all over the place. Not allowed to leave poison out for them though.... they're a big problem though and something needs to be done.
Council not interested.

Vanos solenoid was CEL coming on randomly, subsequent limp home mode and loss of pickup on part throttle once light was reset.
Car feels spot on now. |
