I'm all for enjoying family time and enjoying a drive for what it is, but come on, man. There's nothing wrong with wanting to protect your car from the elements for a long road trip, CHRIST. Quote:

I'd avoid the work involved with plastidipping...just use 3M tape and save yourself the time.

It's a car - it drives on roads. probably more likely to get a stone chip around town than on a long trip. probably worse damage putting things on the bumper.
Why drive it at all - it might get a bug on the windshield and then you'd have to replace the car, right. What would you do if you lived in an area of the world where they actually have bad weather - leave the car in the garage and just admire it.

Try Wolfs Chemicals 'The Mask' - Spray on Clear Film.
You can get it from Detailers Domain. http://www.detailersdomain.com/Wolfs...ask_p_663.html

In the OPs defense, it is worthwhile to spray a clear plastidip on the bumper for the trip, just make sure it's at least 4-5 good coats. Even the clear bra if you do not wash the car on the trip will be ruined especially now with all the bugs out of the woods. Tried and true on multiple cars.

3M Paint Defender Spray.
http://www.amazon.com/3M-90000-Paint.../dp/B00BSKYM82 I was thinking of doing it, just to peel off after a long road trip coming up this July. Bugs are like crazy glue after a trip in the hot sun.

I have been debating using the plastidip clear to protect mine lol
whats with all the people who don't know how to use plastidip complaining that its a hassle? I've had nothing but good things to say about it after following directions. 5-7 coats, and 30 min between each coat. Not spraying farther than 6" away from whatever i'm painting, and moving around evenly. Works everytime for me. Idk how so many people mess up in applying it.

Just use painters tape if you're that worried, it's ugly but it works. It will provide more protection than the clear bra. I've had rocks go right through the clear bra on my previous Lexus. The bra prevents the vast majority of chips, but not all. I've never had a rock go through a couple of layers of painters tape.
Saran wrap is messy and doesn't work that well. A friend tried it years back while we were caravanning to an out of state show. He covers his front end and then taped all the edges. At about 85mph, one of the edges peeled up and the entire thing ripped right off and flew...into my windshield. I lost all visibility and had to nail the brakes to slow down then reach out and pull it off. This was all done on previous cars w/ custom paint that was difficult to touch up. If I was driving a regular car around, I'd just drive it. You've already got a clear bra on there, don't sweat the details. |

If you are paranoid about a 7 hour drive, then just put painters tape on there. Done. Then take it off when you get there so people don't point at you.

Well, like what I've said, tape is defenitely in my mind. I was just wondering if plastidip is a better alternative on top of a clear bra. Or if there's something else that I am not aware of. Thanks for all the suggestions.
