320d msport: can hear alot of outside noise
Ok, this is a confusing question, I haven't owned my e90 for too long, its been about 7months.. At first I ignored this but.. I don't know if its just me but when I'm driving... I can hear a lot of outside noise..now we own a lot of german cars in the family, in my brothers audi, its totally sound dead, in my dads merc and 1series its the same again, cannot hear too much outside noise. But when I get my car, I can hear a lot of noise, wind, etc as if the door hasn't been shut properly. I had this problem my previous car, but that was a renault.. So there doors are not padded.. But later discover a wheel bearing was the reason why it sound more louder, could this be the case or are bmws just not well sound deaden?

Can you be more specific, do you think it is more a wind generated sound, or could it be tyres? Even OEM tyres can get very noisy as they wear. For me, tyre roar is a common source of irritation in some BMW cars. Bigger the wheels, (less rubber to absorb the sound) typically the more noise comes through the car.
BTW, some tyre noise can sound like a wheel bearing issue. It is that loud, or drones. HighlandPete |

You should not hear a lot of noise.
My 320D M-Sport has slightly more road noise, depending on the road surface, compared with my previous 320i SE. I put this down to the larger tyre sizes on the M-Sport. But given a good road surface, on some of our motorways and most/all French motorways, it can be very quite indeed. PS Perhaps there could be a little more cabin noise in the M-Sport due to it's diesel engine. PPS I would not be going back to a petrol BMW |

Must say I've never stopped to consider how silent a car is when stationary, but did have double glazed side windows in my 540i, that did make it quieter to the sides, while driving. HighlandPete |
