There are some exceptions.... Let me rephrase, in a car that offers a MT option, I wouldn't even consider an auto. It would need to be something pretty great to pull me off of a MT

Do it son.. MT is the way to go.
I used to have a 06 330i in a manual and that manual made me love the car even more. 335i manual... Even better, but you get the point. Plus since manuals are a dying breed, the resale value is usually higher. It's up to what you think it comes down to, but IMO the pros of a manual outweigh the very few cons! Either way, 330i is a great car and you'll enjoy it MT or AT. (but more-so MT) lol

It is all up to personal preference. Performance wise there is not much difference anymore as autos are really quick and sometimes quicker than MT. AT traditionally used more fuel but the difference today is nothing. AT is more convenient, especially driving in the city but manuals are more fun (I think).
Traditionally in Sweden almost all cars come with MT as standard and AT is an extra option, the opposite from the US what I understand. Today AT is oftentimes favored driving in the cities but active BMW drivers mostly go for MT, at least if you're not looking at one of the cars with DCT (M). I drive a MT 335i and love the manual but have driven the AT and it is fast and for the turbo 335 it holds boost under shifting. My GF would also would have preferred the AT. |

I love the MT as much as the hand brake. Just plain fun.
Now, it seems everyone is going to a push button hand brake. That is a turn-off for me and when it's time for a new car and BMW does not have a hand brake, then it's goodbye to BMW.

I've had manual transmission cars since I was 16. If you want a fun car - go with a 6mt. Also, buy that $9.99 clutch stop on Ebay. It's fantastic!

Another E90 330i 6MT owner here. Definitely go manual. It's way more engaging to drive. I live in fairly traffic prone area (granted I don't really deal with it very often), but I still love it. I have never enjoyed just getting in my car and driving as much as I do with this car!
Also, I have driven automatic all my life up until this point. |

328 6 speed here. I've only owned MTs all my life and the E92 6 speed is a nicely-executed MT. Nice grip, feel, throw and effort. You can always customize it with a short shifter kit if you like..

I learned manual on a BMW. Transmission is very easy to get used to and a very big margin of error.
