Aroused from its slumber ... :)

Spent the day fettling the RS. Not turned a wheel for over a year.

Charged the battery, and then serviced. On to the rollers for an MOT. Then a quick polish. Dash down to the Post Office and now sitting with a shiny new tax disc ... ready for tomorrow morning.

Purring nicely. Wakes with a bark when you squeeze the throttle.

Still to polish up the alloys.

Back home and I am reeking of oil and old fashioned sooty exhaust fumes.

D,

It's a delight to drive. Light and nimble. Nowhere near the same levels of mechanical grip that you get with a modern BMW - but you get a much more forgiving warning and drifting close to the edge. Live axle is lively, but to be fair, so are RFTs. At least with a live axle your rear wheels are always perpendicular to the road.

You are only a few inches from the engine in the drivers seat, the engine heat soaks through the bulkhead, the smells and mechanical noise. The barking hiss of the twin carbs and the rasping exhaust note.

I have a quick rack, heavy at parking speeds (makes my 335d feel feather light) but on the move it really cones alive. Fully polybushed, with Rose jointed TCAs.

It is an absolute tonic. There are NO driver aids whatsoever. No ABS, TCS, power steering, no fly by wire (you can bog it down at low revs with trying to go WOT, you need to feed the power in). Lets YOU do the driving.

No, I know a couple of others in Scotland.

As luck would have today has rained non-stop. Literally. Flooding and swollen rivers. So used the BMW. don't mind it getting wet ..... But ploughing through floods is not on the cards.

You lucky southerners with your heat waves.

Still raining ...so cleaned and polished the wheels. And gave the whole car a good wax. I love my wee car.

Champing at the bit for the sun to come out, and get out for a blast.

Awesome car, I'd abso love a mk2 with a cossie lump, but would easily take one with a pinto on carbs and be v.happy

Strange time of year to get it out, you just missing it? most people are just (or have already) put theres away til next year!

I'm having the same dilema, I've just finished an engine rebuild on my series 1 (been off the road since Feb 2008 for bare shell resto), and wanted to get it out for october before the really bad weather comes otherwise it'll be march> next year before I get a proper shot of it

Where it spends most of it's life these days:

Still to refurb wheels in diamond cut finish, renew shocks and springs, bigger intercooler etc but that can wait til over winter time

Sorry for thread hijack, just as it was RS related thought i'd share
