Its all a matter of preference. Why not run straight pipes and if you dont like it run some magnaflow mufflers.

I think by straight pipe he means muffler delete. And then the no cats would be catless DPs and a resonator delete but leave the mufflers.

I'm still debating whether I want to just cut off the resonator or get rid of the mufflers and get some tips.

I dont understand how that is a problem. With that system you control how much (if any) is bypassed by the muffler. You will just have to deal with piping the exhaust that is bypassed.

a cut out is pointless for our cars
itll cost too much and the gains are too little for the cost

What "gains"? Performance? So far the thread has only addressed sound. If you feel the cost does not justify the aesthetic, thats your opinion, pointless or otherwise.

ATs are geared differently than autos and tend to hit that drone sweet spot where manuals are less likely to hit. Also, autos like to throw it in the highest gear possible in D mode where manuals do whatever.
It's been proven here that autos drone much more than manuals.

But, I agree with the second post. It's very subjective so to the OP, listen to clips and get what you like.

I was referring to that being interesting. The drone was in reference to running the muffler delete and a resonator delete with straight pipes.

I would never put that thing near a BMW. And any car that I'd run that on I'd rather just run straight pipes. Price doesn't justify the product.

Your prerogative however I dont understand why a BMW supposedly differentiates itself from any other vehicle in this respect.

There are certainly cars I wouldnt put a straight pipe on without some kind of option for muffling, including one of my own. The distinct advantage being not having to crawl under the vehicle to change it.

I see that and its an interesting concept. Cars like the new Corvettes use something similar and open up to straight pipes at higher rpms. I just dont think our engines sound like anything special running just headers.

On the other hand, I ran headers for a bit on a 57 Chevy with a 383 stroker. That motor sounded like sex with just headers. And a BJ with 4" straight pipes.

Ive ran my 461BBC (10:1 SCR) with open headers at the track and its just deafening. I tried glasspaks for a bit and it was still too loud for cruising and got alot of the wrong kind of attention. There's no way I would want to cruise down the highway with open headers or straight pipes, but to be able to open it up on call is beautiful.
