u have good design sense, i think you just need to work on ur perspective and throw out that mechanical pencil. terrible for drawing cars. get some graphics 360 and some prisma color pencils. i like to use 5 cent bic pens and AD marks for quick sketches too. i dont know anyone who uses a graphite pencil...too smudgy

the craft store would have everything except the AD markers probably. Get indigo blue and black prismacolors, you will see that the smoothness of the paper and the greasyness of the colored pencils will make it alot easier to draw...less resistance of the paper.

here is some sketches from my coroflot page:

this was done on the computer in alias studio paint

ad marker and bic pen on letraset paper

prismacolors on graphics 360

thanks again man. i think i'm going to have to get familiar with alias.

this is amazing by the way. very similar to the concepts i draw. i like your design sense.

question: seeing as you're experienced with automotive design, what would you suggest for getting into a respectable school? say, like any of the schools in CA.

Thanks dude! alias is pretty damn expensive unless u have a student ID, and the bootleg versions suck. Its pretty hard to pick up too. Alot of people use photoshop, but its too mechanical and it doesnt have the feeling of drawing as much as studio paint. I would try to perfect your hand skills b4 u get into the computer. The only school i know of out there is Art Center, which is considered to be the best automotive design school in the world. Bangle went there, haha. I went to Cleveland Institute of Art.

Dude, you get better and better as the days pass. I would be happy if I had a fraction of your knowledge in car designs.
Best of luck with your future

yeah, ACCD is where i wanna go. big hopes lol. almost all US designers for BMW are from that school.

i think i have my line work down pat, but my perspective, specifically from the rear 3/4 is still rough. lighting is also fine, but i can't get that glossy mettallic look down. mine end up looking like they have a matte finish...

I was told in school that its not about what school you go to, its about how hard u work. Car markers dont care where u when to school. They only care about hot sketches and good ideas. A good personality helps too. Its hard to get a metallic look with a mechanical pencil. The thing with line work is you want to draw from your shoulder, not ur wrist. try some sketches with just linework and no shading.

thanks for the advice. i really do use my wrist way too much. it gives my drawings a really rough look. that 'sketchy' look you might say.

lol i'm practicing my line work at work right now.

i like it! you simplified the design which brings out the unique features too. interesting. it was meant to be a downsized X3 (like an X1), but i like this hatch idea too. i really appreciate your help btw .if you don't mind me asking...could you please do an overlay of my Z9? only if you've got the spare time.

just the front 3/4.

i'll start adding more to the thread in the future.
