Let's try to drum up an xi Coilovers group buy

How many of us are looking to do Coilovers sometime soon, and what kind? If we get enough people on a list with money in hand perhaps we might be able to get a vendor to do a group buy and we could wind up with something we want for less.

Vendors, if you've accidentally stumbled into the most neglected part of the forum... How many people do you want to see on a list and what kind of price break would you grace us with?

I wanna get some coilovers but I was talking to one of the guys that works in the service dept at my dealer and he said it would void my warranty . I am almost at 50,000 miles though so does anyone know if the coilovers would effect the CPO any?

A modification has to be proven to have caused the failure under review for the warranty to be voided, if I'm not mistaken? If your warranty is food until 50k miles and you're almost there, dealership it one more time to squeak out everything you can and then get them if you want...

Edit: food = good obviously...

Look up Erik Maxwell @ TC Kline. He might be able to work something out...

Lord knows they'll be better than kw's.

Thats pretty sweet. I was trying to understand what the CPO covers, is it everything that isn't a usual maintenance or something that you would replace every xxxx miles?

Doyle- thanks for the reference and your contributions to the xi community as a whole. Im sure I could surf through to find pertinent information, but what are some common problems with the KWs that I'm not aware of? I mostly hear that H&R has a lower drop and isnt stainless steel... therefore being more subjected to wear and tear from the elements, salt during winters where it snows, etc. I don't recall any negatives on the KWs, and they seem to be the popular choice. Popular by no means means that they are the best.

Thanks for the reference- I'll shoot Erik an email tomorrow and will update everyone on the options. It would probably be taken more seriously if I had a larger list of committed buyers, so I'll edit the first post to reflect a list of interested buyers. Maybe when it gets to say 10 (the typical group buy number) I'll present the option to Erik at TC Kline as well as a few retailers of the KWs and H&Rs.

Strength in numbers is real people. Let me know if you are serious about being in the position to buy say in the next week or two (or however long it takes to get a respectable number of people together) and as soon as the list reaches a significant number of serious buyers I'll pitch it around...

Clarify what you do and do not want please.

Thanks for the kudos. I'm just trying to move the entire community forward!

As far as TC Kline v KW, there are a few reasons. First is the lack of adjustability (rebound), second is poor valving, third is poor quality control on the lower level KW stuff, and finally the lack of spring rate choice.

The bottomline is that for a couple hundred more dollars you can get more adjustability and better reliability. If you are going to buy coil overs, you might as well get all the benefits of coil overs.

Even if you don't adjust them, I still feel like my relatively stiff springs ride better than KW V1's. The shop that installed them agree...and they carry both!

YMMV, and everyone's budget/needs will dictate their choices and all that.

+1 on moving things forward... confuses me that literally no one but a small handful see an AWD n54 as something too amazing not to spoil with mod after mod

Had a quick thought that if enough people were to legitimately participate in sharing with the community their tentative modification plans, that we could find enough people to try out a few group buys, possibly leading to more excitement, more interest, more research, larger sample size of people trying out all of the aftermarket options, etc etc etc.

Things don't always catch as I hope... But its worth a shot

Also- I see CP-e in your sig... are you using their FMIC by chance? I wonder about the value of their little oil cooler add on. Most peoples winter is my summer here in AZ... come about April I won't be seeing anything under 100F and if that little oil cooler unit works decently enough I'll just do that for ease instead of DIYing an oil cooler... I don't track my car (yet...) and don't even really push it unless its lower than 90F anyways so I rarely ever see oil temps hit 250. How a turbocharged car can be made without an oil cooler is another rant...

Money talks. If vendors see people with cash in hand for a good product, they will meet the demand. Economics 101 (looking at you, Washington).

As far as the FMIC + OC, I don't yet have it. However, I'm sold on it's efficacy. Huge OCs are great, as long as there is airflow. That's why I went with the AR. I still don't have a cooler in the stock position, so I'll either go cp-e, or the ER sport cooler with shroud. I'll track empirical data along the way.

This. I had a set of KW V1s and they rode like CRAP. It had no travel and the ride was absolutely unacceptable. It was worse than driving a bouncey castle filled with hyper active 5 year olds. Not to mention a strut failed only after a thousand miles or so. Horrible QA.

I'm currently on H&R springs with Bilstein shocks and the ride is decently tolerable. However the ability to adjust height and dampening with a comfortable ride would be ideal. Maybe TC Kline would be the way to go?

Or maybe I'll just try out the Koni yellows. Hopefully they'll get rid of my back ache when driving my car. Either that or I'm getting old.

I'd most likely be in.

Originally I was thinking KW V1's, but now I'll have to do some research on TC Kline based on some of the comments above.

Can TC Kline's be adjusted while still on the car?

Sure can. And it is a pretty wide sweep. To be honest I haven't seriously played with the rebound and I'm very happy with what they came adjusted with.

Sorry, I wasn't as specific as I should have been. I'm curious to know if you can adjust the height while still on the car.
