Anyone else reminded of comedian Stephen Wright?

In my house there's this light switch that doesn't do anything. Every so often I would flick it on and off just to check. Yesterday, I got a call from a woman in Madagascar. She said, "Cut it out."

I think its the Disco Initiation Control Switch,...or D.I.C.kS. for short.

I would look around for one of these...

The switch is $3.19 at Radio Shack.

(Definitely not BMW -- they would have it priced for $319.95!)

My own guess is a power switch for a radar detector or a laser jammer.

Follow the wires! You might find a nice surprise! (Or if you have my luck, you'll find some disconnected wires.)

BINGO, I do not have any idea what it was used for, but the wires are not attached. I do not see any hanging either. I just pulled the Ebrake cover off and looked. If I had know it was that easy I would have done this yesterday.

This is my first BMW and I had no idea that switch was not OEM.

Thanks for all of the info and ideas guys.

I am going to get a COBB tune and FMIC next month and then who knows maybe I can make use of it down the road.

You can't give up now! I am sure when the dealership CPO'd it they removed whatever it was connected to, contact the dealer!

I did not buy the car from a dealer or I would. It had CPO on it from the old guy I bought it from which runs out next month. He was the orignal owner of the car from what I understand and bought it from family member that ran or owned a BMW dealership.

Anyways I love this car and next month I can start adding some HP.

... or an identical switch hidden in some other place in the car, so that these two switches are simply directly connected to each other and nothing else That will surely deepen the mystery.

It's sounds like your interest is waning but if you really have nothing to do sometime look under the front bumper above the fog lights and see if there are any drill holes. This is the most common (and incorrect) spot people mount jammers on the front of an E90.

To those who keep saying it's an a/c switch.. It's not.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the switch for the beverage in the armrest really just opening up a small opening on the same hvac piping that runs to the rear of the car? I.e; if i'm pumping 85 degree heat to the rear hvac ducts, won't the armrest simply pull the same air? The "switch" is really just opening/closing the vent.

"Gramps Jammers" would be a good name for a bluegrass band.

Is it a momentary switch or a on/off kind?

Could it be a remote switch for a garage door opener?
