I went through the same wash not a month ago! Didn't have time to check to see if any seals are gone/moved. |

That sucks. Heavy rain used to over flow some rubber hosing under the hood close to the windshield and where the windshield meets the bottom seal and resulted with water inside my saab on a couple occasions. Will check my e92 if there's any weak spots, in the mean time run a bucket of water at the bottom half of the windshield and see what happens.

There's these 2 little duct like things on either side of your car near the hood hinges that allow water to run through them to the ground. I'm betting they are full of leaves and stopped up.

Has anybody noticed this from a BMS Cowl Delete?
Not sure if the OP has it or not, but if you smelled the soap through the AC, maybe it found its way in through the exposed cabin filters. |

Yeah but a touch less wash does not use that much water. I would figure it would have to use a ton to flood up over to the cabin filter then into the ducts?

I do not have a cowl delete. I think atinybug may have it. I will check this for sure. I think I cleared it out when I switched my cabin filter but possibly not, and that has been a little while.

If the rubber molding strip at the bottom of the windshield has degraded enough it may have lost contact with the bottom edge of the glass allowing water to sheet straight into the blower motor opening. The bottom of the windshield wiper cowl keys into the molding, so if that cowl has been off its also possible that it wasn't keyed back in properly, but you'd see that its not laying on the windshield right pretty easily...mine had this problem and the wiper arm grommets wouldn't line up either.
To re-seat the molding and the cowl, you have to remove the wiper arms from the pivot. I recommend having a second set of hands to help with the re install, keeping them positioned in the correct spot they are supposed to be when parked is a bitch. I would also check to make sure none of these are missing. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_5865 |

The lower molding (#5 above) has a large groove that fits around the bottom edge of the windshield glass. The windshield wiper cowl/cover (#13) has a lip on the bottom side that fits into a 2nd much narrower groove of the molding #5. When its fitted properly, the cowl will lay flat all the way across the windshield and be somewhat firm but its not what keeps the water out. I had to give the cover a few good smacks to seat it properly in a few spots, and could actually hear it kinda click into place. There were small centering marks on both pieces to help with aligning them left-to-right The connection between the cover, the molding and the windshield glass combined direct the water to the drains on either side at the corners of the hood instead of running down into the blower or onto the wiper motor. I would start with the molding first, its <$20 so even if everything is fine but just wasn't assembled properly, you won't feel bad about replacing it. |
