New RS4

Impressive is the word I would use - effortless power !

Accelerated onto a dual carriageway with one in my remappped 330d at 305bhp.

He just pulled away easily. I expected him to be a fair bit quicker but my BMW is now far from slow ... but the way he did it without any fuss was most impressive. My 330d was going great and pulled well, shoving me firmly back in the seat from 40 to 70 just as it should.

Audi's I am told are boring but I think I fancy a bit of that kind of boring.

I got home and looked it up - no wonder he pulled easily ... 4.3 to 60 was the first test I looked at ....

I want one lol

Ummm, it's a 4.2 V8 450HP petrol with quattro and DCT gearbox! What did you expect?!? You can't beat cubes! Although 0-62 is listed as 4.7; same as a 435d which is auto and 4WD - now that would be much more interesting...

I had a similar thing on the a1 with a c63 amg. I tried to chase that in my 330d mapped to 270hp and it pulled away quite easily but not as fast as you expect it to as your still packing a decent amount of torque. I do love the rs4 and amg's but could not live with fuel economy on one

On straights, bhp rules I'm afraid! A GTR left me about 3 cars length at 40-80...

A GTR would leave you in the corners too

RS4/6's are lovely, properly quick wagons, I wouldn't bother with the non RS Audi's though.

I had exactly the same experience in my M3 against an RS6. It just drove away.

It's amazing how effortless it all looked.

Moving to a 330d is going to kill me!

I had a little do with a V10 R8 in my modded 135 a few years ago. Not only did I beat him over about 300 yards between 2 sets of lights, he then stalled at the next set.

It's amazing that people even bother buying these expensive, brand new and often beautiful cars - if your car can't beat a £20 grand 1 series over 300 yards, then you just a rich fool son!

Actually have you guys heard about the legendary DXB? He used to come here a lot. I don't think anyone has ever met him though - his car used to beat Ferraris and Lambos at Santa pod (proven with videos) and I have to admit that I've often wondered if it was even a 335d at all. I think it might have had an engine transplant it something. It was TOO quick!

I test drove a new B8 RS4 a week ago as I was contemplating trading my M3 in against a new car. The test drive was over a variety of roads from motorways to country lanes. The RS4 felt quicker than the M3 particularly on the country roads and was far more sure footed due to the awd. There were some corners the M3 would never have got round at the speeds the Audi could. However overall the car did not feel "special" some of the switchgear was positively tacky and cheap!! The drive home in my M3 really showed me how good a car it is (in the dry) it has all the toys the RS4 had and I didn't have to shell out another £20k+

I thought you had met him Matt. I met him a few times at UK meets when he still had the DXB. It was in fact a 335D - SE model but it had been well re-mapped. He used to be quite a good go-kart driver when he was younger and I suspect that he was really good at getting a car off the line and keeping it in the sweet spot.

Some of his documented times were really impressive though he did annoy people a bit with his fascination with quarter mile times and terminal speeds, after all it doesn't bear much relevance to real life driving.

He was a good story teller in the bar at night after the day's run.

Sigh... E90Post in it's hey day

My mate's ordered an RS4 - I think it looks the absolute bollocks - looking forward to seeing it. Someone else I know tested an RS6 for a few days (some company appraisal thing), didn't see it in the flesh, but on Facebook it looked simply epic.

Ah, the DXB, think he's gone into Brewing ale of something hasn't he??

I think the new RS4 and especially the new RS6 looks immense. If I was in the market for a fast estate it would have to be one of them!

I keep toying with the idea of having one, although I could only stretch to a last of the line B7 avant.Ive never driven one,but I like the idea of them if you know what I mean!
What puts me off is keeping hold of it.At the moment, stealing Audis is now as bad as it was for BMWs a while back and that's across the board.
Unfortunately, fast Audis attract a completely different type of shit bag so I think I'll steer clear and set my sights back on a second hand F31 335d as and when...

Of course it would! And not only me, but porkys and other super cars too!...

The GTR is a beast that eats corners!

I just wished that maybe, on a straight I might have a tiny chance of "keeping up". Mind you, I did get the thumbs up from the GTR driver!

The new rs4 is a 3.0 v6 twin turbo is it not?

the older model had the original 4.2 v8.

you may be thinking about the original RS4, which had a 2.7L Twin Turbo.

current generation S4 and S5 have a 3.0 V6 with a single Supercharger

current generation RS4 has 4.2 V8 N/A (basically the same engine as the old RS4 with a bit of tweakage).

for me they should have put the twin turbo V8 from the S6 into the RS4.... as proved by Chris Harris, a mapped S4 will keep with an RS4!
