HID in Fogs

Hey everyone,

Anyone running HID for their fog lights? Do you have any recommendation for a local shop that can take care of this for me?

thx

I just placed an order for these:

http://www.highperformancebulbs.com/hipexebmwpla.html

I'm pretty sure you're going to use the same bulb type - 9006. If it's an H8, go here on the main HID page:

http://www.highperformancebulbs.com/bmwhidfoglia.html

Hope this helps bro.

I've been following a thread in Cosmetic Upgrades/Lighting (Least Expensive Canbus HID's (foglights) Review - but it's gone now IDKW) and made the decision to buy after going thru the feedback. Here's the email I got back from Fred/HPB a month or so ago explaining which part to order off the site:

Hi Alex,

We have the "Custom Application" section here: http://www.highperformancebulbs.com/hipexebmwpla.html

You can then select 9006 and the color bulbs you would like. 4300K is the factory HID headlight color and matches exactly.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Fred

How hard is it to install in our cars? Where did you hide the ballasts?

I gotta find a link to the old thread. Someone posted pics on where they mounted the slim ballasts too. Dammit...can't believe that thread is gone...wtf.

Shipping is from New Jersey, so my best guess is that I should have it sometime by Friday (5-7 business days). It may be another 2 weeks before I get some time to install - when I do, I'll take some pics and reply here. Unless....you get your kit first and do the install before I do. =]

btw, some peeps used strong double-sided 3M and some used the included brackets and self-tapping screws. If I remember correctly, there's a handy bolt by the oil cooler on the passenger side that makes for a good mounting point for the ballast. I don't remember the recommended spot on the driver side.

I have 6000K H8 HID's as my fogs. I 3m taped the ballast to the inside of my front bumper. The install only took about 15 minutes per side (30 minutes total). I ordered them from DDM, and they cost about $65 including shipping.

Wow thats a bit pricey! I think most shops will charge something around that though.

Sure no problem, I wouldn't mind helping out with the install. Just let me know when you have the HIDs and we can work something out!

Not to bring up the old thread, but are these kits going to throw codes?

I too have the DDM 6000K HIDs as my fogs easiest install ever took about 40min to have both sides done and tucked away using velcro to stick the ballast to the front bumper. I also use the DDMtuning HIDs for my bike and havent had any problems bike or car. As for it having a code I'm not sure as I bought the DDM code begone thing for like $15.

I'm running alpine motorspors HID fogs, and like them a lot (6000K) - also have the HID angel eyes (8000K).

http://www.alpinemss.com/product_p/hidf.htm

I had them installed at CnC in Bellevue, and it ran close to $400 - but it was the first one they did. The install is super clean. They mounted the ballast behind the wheel fender - which was easy as I was having my new springs put in anyway. It's not hard if you are a DIY-er, but I've heard of people having problems with either mounting in a place that is too hot, or not dry enough.
