Not all Rolex watches hold their value that well. My 16610 steel sub date was £2120 new 8 years ago. I traded it with the same dealer last October for £1700 against a TT 16613 Gold/Steel blue sub date. Assuming zero discount on the 16613 I 'lost' £420 in 8 years. Not bad I suppose, seeing as the watch needed a service, never having had one before. The AD has it in the window for exactly the same price I paid 8 years ago and he has had it serviced by Rolex. The new one was over £4K and I am hoping it will maintain a similar value although I have no intention of selling it.

You should try the Flik Flak range Carlos.
I'm reliably informed they hold their value better then Tag or Rolex. Google it

I've noticed http://www.watches.co.uk/ advertise regularly in BMW car mag,not an endorsement in any way, but might be of interest.

My present TAG was £620 new in '97, and is now worth approx £250-£300(but more to me), but the new equivalent model, I think, is £800ish.

I asked a few other ADs how much they would give me for my watch against a 16613 and prices ranged from £1100 - £1400. So, I was perfectly content with the px price my local AD offered me. It helped that I ordered my wife's datejust at the same time! When I say I assumed no discount, it was the fact that the dealer just quoted how much extra he wanted to change. Not sure what he would have put through his books!

I bought my Breitling from www.tagwatchesdirect.co.uk They source if from the states and sell it on to you. It comes with all papers stamped (mine was from a Breitling dealer in NY) and a full guarantee. I saved nearly a grand compared to the local jewellers.
You need to be careful as some cheap internet sites etch off the serial no. so that the watch can't be traced to the original dealer. Here is a pic of it - only mine has the Mother Of Pearl face instead of the white.

Sadly, although there are quite a few, quality makes out there: Brietling, Omega, Panerai, IWC (sorry not a TAG fan) the simple fact is for the budget you are in, Rolex will hold its value the best. That said, you want to stick to the Steel sports models if you are thinking of resale, so its a sub, explorer II (I have one, love it) or sea dweller for you. If you want new, discounts are not easy to get, if you buy second hand (as many, many do) then buy the seller, not the watch! |
