Is this a good automatic wash?
This is just for the winter. It's too cold to wash my car myself so I've been looking for an automatic wash. What do you guys think?

Now say i drive a big ford f350 and i just got done transporting woood junk fall leaves ran through the mudd a few times and the car is filthy and i want to go to the car wash. Wow My car is clean after all the cloths pulled off the dirt!! Now you roll in right behind this f350 in your shiny bmw thats been hand pampered.....and you drive through ...when those cloths are slapping against your car and spinning at medium to high speeds with the f350s dirt on them ...Guess what all that dirt is gonna turn those nice soft cloths to the same thing as sand paper!!! and when you go to leave and they dry your car with the same towel as they used on the f350...dish towel...generic cotton....do yourself a favor and spend 100 and get a wash and wax at a local detail shop. Best of luck ~steve Last edited by lizak187; 11-26-2008 at 05:17 PM.. |

Don't use Jax. It's fine for a lease vehicle, or for those people who don't care about swirl marks... but it's going to ruin your paint.
For the winter use either a touchless wash or go to the quarter wash. Yeah, it won't be a complete cleaning, but it'll remove most of the dirt and grime and the salt from the roads. Then in the spring give it a good thorough detailing.

they use harsh chemicals that will strip your protection if they scrub anything, they'll make swirls they don't clean off all the dirt, so as you're driving along, you're sheeting dirt off with the water on it |

^^ I agree nothing beats a handwash however when you live in Michigan or Toronto you have to clean the salt and crud off your vehicle and it's too cold to do it outside.
Given the option of dirty swirls + chemicals or just chemicals... I will take my chances with the touchless / trackless option for the winter. Give you car a good coat of wax before the bad weather hits and do the same once spring hits and you will be fine. |

Of you're going to go automatic go touchless. If you go soft cloth or brush I can promise you you'll pay for it later. I mean that. Better yet, wash it yourself after you have it properly prep'd by a detailer.
