Engine Cleaning

I have a DCI on my 335i, and since the snorkle isnt going to a closed intake system, my engine bay is getting dusty. How do I clean it? Can I simply spray it with a hose?

put a plastic bag over it (like a grocery store bag) so the filter doesnt get wet MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T GET WET. then you can spray the engine with a hose, spray on degreaser (p21s TAW), scrub the more soiled areas, and then rinse off, then apply any dressing of your choice (i like megiar's hyperdressing)

You could also use Aluminum foil to cover the sensitive area.

ScheerSpeed summed it all up.

303 Aerospace is also a good dressing on engine bays. I use it and Hyper Dressing depending on how much or less shine I'm looking for.

Is all that necessary, the degreaser and dressing? I've never cleaned any engine before, so I have no clue. You can't simply spray it with a hose?

Spraying the engine with the hose will not break down the grease and oiled that has been baked on by the heat of the motor.

Ok, ty. The reason for my cleaning is because I have the filter box off, so it is getting really dusty under the hood. A simple spray of a house will get off what I need. If it still is dirty, I'll get some degreaser and whatnot.
