upgrade for e90 with logic 7 - morel/focal/etc
I need help here.
I want to upgrade the sound on my e90 sedan which has the logic 7 system (no cd or sat radio). I listen to classic rock and would like to make the sound a bit cleaner and more full range. I want to keep the look stock. I am also selling the car in a few years in hopes of the new m3 sedan when it comes out so I don't want to go crazy. Maybe under $3k? Can someone help me out with the price/performance steps I could do? I had two recommendations: one was to get rid of the surrounds and rears and upgrade the fronts and underseat mids, and put in a 10" sub in the trunk. Upgrade amp. the other was to keep all the speakers, upgrade also the fronts and under seats , and trunk sub. Upgrade amp. I think processors were recommended - audison bit10 or ms8, the problem with the ms8 was that it interfered with bluetooth (echo) which I need. For speakers, focals, morels for the fronts or rainbows or jentach for underseat. Amps were jl or audison. These systems got almost too pricey though. Can someone help me out here? I want nice sound, but I am not a committed audiophile, not out to show it, and will be moving on to a new car in a few years... thanks! |

FYI
For the best known and tested solutions using high quality components
see these guys http://www.musicarnw.com/page-2/ Focals are kind of harsh from the feedback from some of the members I choose Morels because of that comment. That system is not to bad already from my understanding . (at least compared to the others ) I would add a 4 channel amp and upgrade the under seats and front doors for a starting point(while keeping the stock amp). Unless you really want to rip up the whole thing. Last edited by ctuna; 11-25-2011 at 11:06 AM.. |

Some more alternatives if you are DIY inclined and have a small budget:

1) Add a trunk sub (musicar NW+Technic harness)
2) if you want...add an amp, possibly JBL MS-8 3) if still not happy, upgrade speakers I would do it in stages. to minimize cost, determine your happy point ctuna and kaigoss also know what they are talking about. Kaigoss has been reasonably happy with MS-8 and stock L7 speakers but has since upgraded. |

If you're looking at upgrading the front speakers. I have an extra set of Morel Dotech Ovation 4's Brand new in the box that I am selling cheaper than any place you will find online. Hit me up if you're interested. Here is my FS thread to the set:

Also what I did:
Upgraded the front doors to a Morel 4" component set, replaced the factory amp with a JL XD600/6. Replaced the underseat miss with earthquake SWS8's. I used the harness from Technic, as well as oem connectors for the speakers so everything is plug and play. Between all of the parts, connectors, adapters, dynomat, harness I am into the system $1250. And it is all plug and play, so I can remove and reinstall the stock components if I ever sell or trade it in. |

You all are ahead of me in upgrading audio.
I have replaced front speakers with Morel and am adding earthquake sws-8xis. So far all on stock logic7 amp... How do you power four channels off the logic7 and an aftermarket amp? Technic told me his harness can only connect to subs on a logic7 amp, not to four or six channels. I want to retain volume control and avoid an expensive sound processor. Thanks for any insights

I don't think you can easily swap the amp out. It is my understanding the Logic 7 system and AMP use a fiber optic (digital) cable from the 9-channel head unit to the amp. It uses a propriety digital signal processing that isn't available to aftermarket vendors. The wires from the amp to the speakers though are of course regular speaker wire. So upgrading your speakers isn't a problem, make sure it's the same ohms as stock.
It would probably help you to disable the Logic 7 as well (regular stereo sound) which will also disable your center speaker on the dash for the type of sound you are hoping to achieve. |

If you have l7
You are stuck with using the stock amp for a fiberoptic to analog converter.
Which means aftermarket amps that accept other amps speaker outs or LOCs to solve the problem. If you are going take out the L7 amp then you have to recode the radio for analog if that's possible and fill the hole left but the 9 channel amp. |
