Help - Audio system issue with Start Stop
Hello to everyone
I am new to this forum and I live in London. I just recently (Month ago) purchased a 2008 318i M sport. I installed a Kenwood (all in Satnav, Bluetooth, DVD) Single Din through an Audio Specialist. The problem is whenever I approach a traffic lights the engine cuts off and as soon as I clutch in, the engine fires up BUT it shuts down my whole audio system. It will then take about 10 secs to reboot itself and would start playing normally. This is quiet annoying everytime the the audio shuts out cause of the start stop system. The audio specialist couldnt figure it out and I am totally lost when it comes to electronics. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thank you all for the help Kind regards H |

I would be looking at the engine problem first.

Do you have any idea of what this guy used for connection points for power. |

Accessories must turn off then during clutch in, wire to ignition and you should be set (verify with meter). There will be a switched 12v somewhere in the vehicle that doesn't power off during clutch in.
His vehicle has the start/stop system. |

What is the start stop system? Are you talking about NIC?

Hi
Start Stop system - Its there as a fuel efficiency system. Everytime you come to a stop, the engine will automatically cut off to save fuel (providing the car is in neutral). As soon as you are ready to move, you clutch in and the engine fires up to drive. |

The feature I was talking about, Neutral Idle Control (NIC), disengages the drive train when coming to a stop and re-engages it when starting up. I wonder if the Start Stop feature superseded NIC because NIC sucks. Alot. |

Simply needs to tap into a new 12v source thats not affected by the start/stop system.
I believe (I'm probably wrong) the stock head unit does tap into accessory power, but uses canbus for ACC power (as in when canbus tells it the car is shutdown, it shuts down) As a side note, what extra strain does the start/stop put on the motor, what part wears out sooner? I drove an audi with the same system and always wondered what the achilles heal would be for a system like this. |

initially the lighter puts out a constant power, however there is a drop in the voltage when the engine powers up. The car is going back to the audio place in two weeks time. I will post the outcome. |
