Need DINAM Stage 2 N55 Impressions
SO I have the PPK (factory) and am thinking about the Dinan Stage 2 - when folks say "significant" and noticeable, how so - like 328 to 335 noticeable - or this 335i seems peppy today noticeable?
Insights please?

From looking at the numbers, it's likely hardly noticeable

Do you enjoy wasting money? Dinan it is.
Do you enjoy performance? JB4 or Procede. Like your warranty? Don't mod.

I just got my JB4 as my first power mod, it COMPLETELY transforms the car
It's definitely faster than my old M5, pulls like crazy

In reference to Dinan, I have a friend who works at a BMW store who used to be an authorized Dinan dealer. He said their warranty is a joke. There were several instances where Dinan took months (6 months one time) to finally authorize warranty repair with no regard to the customers. After that they Dinan to take their products and shove it. Based upon that I wouldn't care how well their products perform. You pay a premium for a warranty and they won't stand behind it.

I guess I am one of the few people on this forum to have actually had the Stage II installed on my car. I had it done at Budd's BMW in Oakville which happens to be Dinan's largest authorized dealer.
I don't have a single regret about this upgrade. I find it ironic how some guys pay a premium for the car they drive and then they go cheap on the upgrades that they shouldn't. There are all kinds of tunes available. I personaally prefer a tune that does not piggyback. Active Autowerkes has a great tune for the N55. I have been to Miami and driven one before deciding on Dinan. The reason I went with Dinan is because I don't have to ship my ECU. This is the third BMW that I have relied on Dinan to enhance it. The other were my 2006 M3 (RIP) and my 2009 M3(track car). Having tracked cars for many years and still active in racing, the question I always ask people who start to "tune" their cars is what else have you done to balance the added power load? Things like altering the drivetrain setup, FMIC, suspension, wheels, LSD, exhaust, bigger turbo's etc. Put a quality tune in your car that does more that just trick the ECU. Dinan is only one of several options out there. Cobb will come out with a viable option as well but expect the price to be well north of a bill. Reprogram and recode the car for your preferences and hardware. Then spend money learning how to drive it properly because a great driver in a slower car will beat an average driver in a fast car everyday of the week.... For me, my 335 is a nice car but just my daily driver. If you really want to make your BMW perform like a high performance sports car then actually just buy a high performance sports car. My Porche fills that role perfectly. Button line......the ECU tunes will all be in the same range and the piggyback's will all be in a similiar range. Whichever tuner you like, support them! But remember, not all tuners have the same objective so know what you are looking for and you are likely to find it. See you all at the track!

I had the AA for my 328 and it was fantastic- no issues whatsoever. I'd love to do the same for my N55! Where on your site Andrew? |

Cool- must be new. I have 100% faith in AA tunes- had one on my 2009 328xi coupe and was flawless. These guys have been in the game forever and their tunes get out the most of what you can safely and reliably.
This is a major factor on why I'm hesitating with the JB4 -this is my car now, and I just can't be 100% comfortable that the JB4 isn't pushing the N55 in some way shape or form past its reliable limits. I mean 529 for a piggyback vs a true tune...so much to think about here... Next question- who in the NJ area can do an AA N55 tune/ flash? |
