Coolant fitting n55 cracked

Hey all,

On my 2011 335i, n55 the coolant fitting on the head has cracked. I believe this is the n54 part. 11537541992 and there's aluminum fittings on eBay for this pn.

. Looks like this is the n55 part 11537584549..
Pipe goes from front of cyl head to thermostat I believe. 1" pipe

Is there a easy to change just the fitting or easy way to change the whole pipe. I saw the aluminum fittings on eBay but they say they don't fit n55

I LOVE DEALERS. can i express that more?

so out of like 7-8 dealers in houston, i call 4 in town to find out the price. i ask them based on part number.

PN: 11537584549
momentum bmw houston - $120
Advantage midtown - $80
Bmw woodlands - $88
Bmw west houston - $56

i asked for a price match, they said F NO

these prices should be mandated by manufacturers.

so just wondering if any one has advice or directions on how to change this hose from the thermostat end. thanks in advance

If the orientation of the parts match the N54, the hose is accessible by just undoing the U shaped hose off the water pump end. It is one of two, iirc, of the hoses held on by t bolt clamps and not quick disconnect clamps.

Removing ps lines or sway bar isn't necessary. Small hands help. Routing the new line sucks, I did it from the top going down, squeezed my entire hand around the back of the tstat to get it around. Maybe replace the expansion tank bleeder screw while you're at it, mine went two weeks after doing this.

Hopefully your dealer doesn't want 20 bucks for it like mine did. It's literally $4 msrp on realoem and on ecs. Good luck!

I ordered 2 of these for my N52K engine for my X3 and for my N54 engine for my 335is.
The same part desintegrated on the X3 and the E-bay part did fit. I entered your hose and the 2 other hoses I mentioned - one for the N54 the other for the N52 in ECS website, and I looked closely at the images they have, they show clearly that plastic end, and to me that end looks identical on all 3 hoses, and one of them is the one for the N55. I couldn't tell the difference from the pics, so not sure the difference is, maybe the OD? But I doubt it. I would ask the seller of the alu e-bay fitting why it doesn't fit the N55 engine. If he gives detailed answer, then dealer is your option. If the answer is vague, and he doesn't know, maybe he didn't check if the parts fit, it's just what he heard somewhere else, it might worth a shot to grab one, they aren't expensive.

FCPeuro had a marginally better price on that screw
Also that hose, they have it cheaper.

Thanks, yea I usually order alot from fcp euro, but I didn't order online because I needed to fix the car by this weekend. Shipping would have come in next week. Expedite was too exp.

I'm gonna start work on it tomorrow. Hope it doesn't take till Saturday lol

I need to replace this hose myself. The dealer pointed out that there was a small coolant leak. After I checked it myself, I see dried coolant residue building up around that connection. Is there any DIY for this hose install?

Drain coolant from radiator spigot.
Take that end off (There are 2 screws if I remember correctly - size 8mm), the plastic fitting will probably desintegrate in a gazillion pieces and the O-ring will come out 3 sizes bigger. Make sure there's no debris left in the hose and install the alu fitting. Find a different clamp, the one provided by the seller is too big. You also want a quality clamp that will not start cutting through the rubber. Or you can use a OEM Oetiker type clamp (probably the best). Install hose back with shiny alu fitting back (the fitting comes with O-ring), fill back the antifreeze, vent cooling system, done.

Hey Dori, were you able to get the aluminum fitting on a n55? I can't get any replies out of these eBay guys

So I just started. Took off u-hose between pump and thermostat. One clamp on the hose was pointing towards the subframe, pia to take off. The clamp on the coolant hose in question is also pointing towards frame. F.

Gonna go get some wrenches. Smallest I have is 8.

So took me 2 days. Washed/degreased underbody and waited for.it to dry.

Thank you all for the help on this. Instructions helped.greatly.

Taking out the rad fan makes it easier to route the new pipe. Seems like the car is running a bit cooler now used to run oil temp close to 250 and now its around 230-240.

Wish I had a lift!!!! Lol

I am also wondering the same about the N55 aluminum upgrade

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F182218057115

Found a seller description that states it fits “N55 all newer chassis.”

I’m waiting sellers response if it fits f-series N55.

I really don’t want to route a new hose just for that stupid plastic fitting bmw decided to use.

I'll put this out there... A friend of a friend had that fitting fail on him when he pulled the adapter out of the block; he has an N55. When I was swapping the hose in the same location on my N54 I installed the aluminum eBay adapter, so I had a brand new spare oem adapter from the N54 hose. I gave the adapter to my friend's friend who installed it on his N55 and he hasn't had any issues with fitment or leaking.

I took a pic of the broken fitting. To get it off I squeezed the metal clamp around the fitting and the plastic fitting broke loose. The rubber “O-ring” was ripped. Basically the whole piece was broken. Rubber hose was still good however. It’s best to get a new hose.

I’ll take an installed pic later tonight.
