1st gear problem on 335i

I have recently purchased a manual 335i coupe. However, I've noticed that when I press on the gas while in first gear, the car gets really jerky sometimes. It's like the car is about to stall, and I experience about 2 or 3 uncomfortable jerks when this happens. I'm not a new manual driver, so I know it's not my manual skill. This doesn't happen everytime i'm in first gear, but I experience it atleast once everytime I take the car out. This only happens in 1st gear going into 2nd gear, and after that, the car runs smoothly.

Is this a common problem with the 335 engine or does my car need to get serviced?

This is not normal for MT 335i..Possibly the clutch?..help to know how many miles

it has 24,xxx km on it. If it was a problem with the clutch, wouldn't it happen on all gears rather than just 1st gear?

Could it be a problem with the fuel bump or the turbo

I have had 1-2 issues but never issues in first. Fuel pump symptoms typically occur on start until it dies Su#deny. Go to the dealer and please report back. This sounds weird.

fuel pump possibly...don't sweat it ....it's covered for 10 years 120k miles.

I presume this is only when flooring up to redline? Maybe you are hitting rev limit/fuel cutoff? Try shifting earlier to see if you can re-create. If not, maybe you are waiting too long to shift??

That's weird, I just started having this problem too. It's usually the first drive of the day, when I back out of the drive way and put it into 1st and drive away I get the jerks. I have been driving this car for about 3 years so I know It's not me but it feels like when you're not giving enough gas. After a few jerks it goes away and i won't experience it again for a few more days.

I have a similar issue, 1st gear is jerky as hell. I've just kind of grown to live with it. I don't think my manual skills are bad, and everything is just fine once I go into second+. I also have a MT.

I have the same issue too. Occasionally in the morning, the car jerks violently 3 or 4 times. I either ride it out or push in the clutch. I believe it has to do with the car being cold. It's when I'm late for work I don't think the car has enough time to warm up. I know these cars are EFI but still if I let the car warm about two minutes it's smooth (except for the stupid CDV from 1>>2).

I think you hit it on the nail. I noticed the same thing when I don't let the engine warm up. Turbo powered cars are more sensitive to the "warm up" than NA. My old Audi TT was the same way. Why do you think they have turbo timers? I always let my car warm up and cool down before driving/shutting off. I'll be late for work...so what...actually makes me leave earlier knowing I have to warm it up.

Turbo timers are a thing of the past, our cars have that built in, so you don't need to let it COOL down before shutting off...........Just sayin'

So it won't throw codes. I'm under warranty dealer denies that's it. What should I do ?

mine does the same thing... sometimes running late for work, i'll only let it warm up mayber 1-2 minutes before driving off and the initial takeoff in 1st feels like the fuel is cutting out or something. kinda like when you are riding with someone who cant drive stick well and its like jump jump jump only less harsh... after that its fine.

is there any way to test the low pressure fuel pump sensor

that's exactly how mine is at times, but i realize if you give more gas in first gear, it tends to eliminate the jerking problem.
