To answer some of the questions about my LCMT lap video, the only mods I have on my car are Nitto NT01s 275/35-18 all around, GC camber plates and PF08 brake pads. All the rest is stock. I try to keep mods to a minimum as I am firm believer that the part that needs to most improvement is the one between the seat and the steering wheel .

As for tires, not all street tires or r-comps are created equal. The NT01s are relatively mild r-comps and give me about 2 seconds a lap compared to my PSS (I run 1:57s with the PSS). The NT01 are worth about 1 second compared to NT05s or AD08s. More aggressive r-comps like Hoosiers will cut another 1 to 2 seconds compared to the NT01s. The reason I use r-comps is that street tires just melt away when pushed harder and it becomes quite expensive...

Hopefully I'll see some of you at the track this summer
hey man - sick video. i will try some of the different lines. any idea how much time camber saves you? I will install mine soon - should be fun to test out.

PS, every weather source is different. went from 30% 1mm to 40% 10mm and on yahoo it's 20%...so wtf

anyways it will hopefully rain a bit, not much...

Don't expect a huge amount of time from camber plates. I mostly installed mine to improve front tire wear. I was cording my tires on the outer edges. If you are very skilled and are able to constantly balance the car at the limit, you might be able to get half a second a lap at most (I am not skilled enough to have seen that much of a benefit). I have tried several alignment settings and have settled with -2.8 front and -1.8 rear camber with stock toe settings. These settings yield nice even temperature distribution across the tire and even wear. Note that I am running a stock suspension. Any suspension mods may require different alignment settings.

What got me the most time is the tighter/slower/shorter line in 4, 8 and 14 compared to the traditionnal school line. Be wary though about the tight line going into 4, it makes the braking quite hairy .

Have fun and report back

Some interresting reading about tighter/shorter/slower lines:

hairy because you need to brake while not straight? Does that mean you scrap that line in the wet?

You still have to do your main braking in a straight line. The basic principles still apply. However with the tight line, the straight section is extremely short, this is what makes it hairy. Becasue the straight is so short with that line, people have a tendency to start braking before the car is straight, and this can throw you in a bad spin. You do enter that corner with quite a lot of speed.

You are correct, forget that line on wet pavement.

Hey everyone, I just started lurking in this thread because I will be going to Montreal in a week! Are there weekly meets going on or something? I'm in Plattsburgh NY for school and I've always wanted to visit.

hahaha yeah that thing is great. It's like the Golf W12 they made a few years ago that Top Gear tested and said it was one of the most insane cars they've ever driven that should never be built commercially but was really cool.

I like that VW does this, actually. It's a total waste of money in a way, as the car will ever be made, but I think it's cool that they do - I've never seen BMW make one-off cars aimed to please their fans.

Hi there are no consistent weekly meets, random meets organized here and there (breakfast, drives, coffee on occasion but we have a though crowd for coffee!!!).

What day(s) are you coming up?
