Problem with OBX header
Hi guys,
I have serios problems with OBX headers - probably OBX sends to Europe the worst pieces 1. after instaling headers, there is no place to instal engine mount. There is 2cm missig, which is really much. Problem is in exactly sam place where three pipes conect into one, so modification is not possible I am also waiting for the Gavin's helps, because I know he has been running these headers for som time. Also he posted the manual how to instal headers, please send me a link (i am not able to find it) I am posting a picture, where you can see that engine mount can not be srewed into place Any suggestions are welcomed!!! |

Did you install it on the wrong cylinders?

Btw, I didn't know Gavin released a DIY guide....I found it. It's a few threads below.
He mentions you need to cut the engine mount....then he reinforced it but did not think just cutting would be a problem. There's also some welding that's involved.....which I was unaware of. It would be nice if it was truly bolt on.... |

I think the problem lies with OBX. Personally I wouldn't put an OBX header on my lawnmower. They are notorious for poor quality and fitment.

OF COURSE they are fitten on correct cylinder.... I am not so stupit DD
I can not find Gavin guide - please can you post me a link? Probably I have even worse quality than Gavin, because I need to cut the whole engine support - not just a small piece. I will try to weld it and adjust, or I will make just the Cat by pass Martin |

You need to remove the top thin cover metal on that mount, then take a grinder to the mount and basically cut a 2.5" long and .5" deep box out of it, then fill it in with weld to keep it strong. There will be 2-3mm clearance when the engine rocks under power, but it never hits
Your also going to need to cut 1 of your midpipes about an inch because 1 header is too long. its a pain. |

hello
Headers are fitted. 1. Modification were made on headers not on engine mount. 2. Without O2 sim engine was weaker and much louder compared after installing O2 sim. (after cca 20km - 13 miles the engine check light shut down) 3. I have a minor problem with engine smoothness in low rpm - up to 1600. I suggest that problem is in position of the first o2 sensor. - in original headers o2 sensor is after connection of three pipes into one - in OBX the position of o2 sensor is before this connection What do you think about changing the position of o2 sensors - first sensor would be mounted on the position of secound (the secound one is either simulated by O2 sensor) |

I had the obx headers installed on my 2006 330xi e90. The modification was also made on headers and not the support of the engine mount. ( took out the thin plate on the support and kinked my the long header to have the clearance to bolt back the support in place). My only problem is the connection on the mid pipe. I am missing 2 cm to make a perfect fitment. Any suggestion ????

The mid pipe is suspended by rubber hangers, they should allow for some back and forward play, did you check that?

The engine check light is normal, get that fixed by getting a tune for catless downpipe setups. The car will always smell different the first couple of times after installing new exhaust parts. If the smell persists then it has to be a leak in the engine to exhaust gaskets. Are you using new gaskets?

My only concern is the guy told me that it will probably leak from mid pipe to headers (cause there was a small gap ) ..( i will take some picture soon enough to show ) .. There's couple things that I remember when he installed my headers
1- By trying to remove out the 4 o2 sensors.. he kinda broke 1.. so he had to force by heating it ( it ripped all the treard.. he tried to work it back a stick with tread and he told me it worked out.. but who knows) 2 - There was a small gap between 1 headers and and exhaust ( even though he had tight every single bolt of it ) You think those item can be the cause of engine light and smell ? |
