everyone on here is an idiot that is saying "there goes bmw!!!"

if bmw can find more ways to say money to improve their technology and reliability by working in the most environmentally and technologically supreme plant of it's kind in North America so be it. if they can help improve the American economy with German technology so be it. if they can work in the best atmosphere in the US for auto manufacturing and testing so be it!!!

if it's made in America with German technology and standards their won't be any issues. it definitely hasn't hurt x5 sales and the only reason the z4 hasn't surpassed others in it's class is design and weight.

Relax
The global economy doesn't support this theory anymore -- nor should it. A lot of American cars are now made in Canada. Are they any less American? What about Toyota and Nissan? They build some of their best-selling cars right here in the USA too. Does that make them any less Japanese? The same goes for Apple with their Macs, iPods and iPhones. Sure, they're conceived and designed in the USA, but they're mass produced in Asia. Are these products any less American? What about aircraft? All major components for the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner are manufactured in Japan, Italy and the USA. When it takes to the air, will anyone doubt its pedigree as a Boeing (and, therefore American) plane? Of course not.

If the economy keeps heading the way its headed, it would certainly behoove BMW to build a significant number of their best seller (the 3-series) here. If they don't, we'll see some VERY steep price increases; at which time I'm sure I'll be responding to a thread that reads "WTF with BMW and their $80K 3-series price tag?! It's just a 3-series for God's sake!"

Ask our friends in other countries what they paid for their 3-series -- I'm sure you'll get no sympathy from them.

this seems shockingly short sighted of BMW to me... currencies have cycles just like every other market. as soon as they complete this shift the dollar will have rallied, the euro will fall (economy is looking worse and worse over there) and the dollar/euro relationship will be inverted...

A better argument would be that their profit margins may be a bit higher by producing for the large US market on its own turf and saving on logistical costs, but who knows. ok...time for another (german imported) beer.

it better not be the US built M class from the late 90s kind of 'made in USA' quality.

But i'm pretty sure BMWs quality control rules are good enough to ensure ... quality.. because if BMW has no quality, they will lose all they have to toyota (or any other good sensible car that doesn't charge premium) which has quality but no style. in a nutshel.

wtf is wrong with you people ??? bmw HAS there own standards, i don't give a CRAP if its made in china or india or Kazakhstan !! its still a BMW, what don't you guys like about BMW's made in the US ?? seriously, think before you speak, like you gonna see any difference between US built and German built. They still use the same technology to build the cars, its not like Germans assemble whole cars with there hands, come on seriously its 21st century.

As others said, each part of the world has its strength and weaknesses. I believe the auto manufacturing process in Germany is better. There are plenty of other things that are far better here in US than anywhere else, and my desire to drive a German built car in no way contradicts to my love for the country I now reside in.

These issues with the new 335i makes me feel we are buying it for the brand and suprisingly find something else under the hood. If BMW continues on like this, the name isn't going to last.

They may actually be built in Parmistan.

10 Points to the first who knows what that is from and not through a Google search.

I suppose I am opposed to this., BMW has never been a brand of quality but rather driving experience. Driving experience is engineered into the product and not built into it.

engineer is on paper making it real is built. Brand is what gives label the name of the originator.

Honestly there is no such thing as a perfect car but I am beginning to wonder about BMW. My first and I have learned more than what I thought I knew about it on this forum.

The production is automated and part of the design process.

I am well aware of the design versus production matters as I have been on multiple lines on multiple continents.

The majority of the E90's sold in the US are built in the Rosslyn, South Africa plant. It used to be 325/328 only but they are now also building E90 335i's for the US market. There are some threads on this board about people finding some South African Rands in their car.

Local dealer 335i build in SA

http://www.vehix.com/inventory/Detai...ookieSupport=1

However CarFax will tell you it was build in Germany, but is not.
A N in your VIN means it was build in SA

and all those SA build 328i's

Meant e92s but thanks for the research!

BMW engineering and USA build = Winner

BMW standards with US jobs and quality is a fantastic blend. Look - it is all about culture. If BMW builds the culture of BMW into its work force, no matter where it is, it will build wonderful cars. With any workforce it is all about the culture and BMW has one of the best in the word. As an owner of Z4 and Z3 I KNOW we can do it right! Looking forward to it.

Bayerische Motoren Werke!!

These cars need to be build by people drinking real bear (not Bud Light), eating bratwürst and drive the autobahn to work. One more reason to go back to Audi for me.
