Think I burned clear coat need some advice on what to do next
I feel like such a googan.
I was trying to even out some paint blobs after fixing some minor nicks on the hood using touch up paint. I used a porter cable 7424 with Lake Country wool pad and 3M rubbing compound to cause this damage.. Obviously I lingered too long or applied to much pressure on the ridge area of the hood.. At first inspection it appeared to me that I burned just the clear coat and that the monaco blue metallic paint might be hiding underneath the burn mark. Or... I burned through the clear coat, metallic paint, and I am looking at the primer? I need some advice on what to try next.. I am thinking of wet sanding with 2000 grit to see if I am lucky and can get through the burnt layer and then reapply more clear coat and repeat the previous process (hoping not to burn it this time). Wondering if someone with experience can chime in on possible diagnosis and solution to the issue.. A close up of the damage: |

You're probably better off asking this in the detailing section. Some of those guys have incredible knowledge.
I'd help you out, but unfortunately paint correction is not my expertise.
