Went to Santa Pod today, 1st time in 3 years (raced a 335d LOL)
Well nearly 3 years. Been itching to get the M3 up there. I was very concerned about being majorly disappointed though. Especially after seeing so many struggle over the years.
Back when I was a slut for it (drag racing) with the 335d a few years ago I actively seeked out E46 M3 as they were a benchmark car and I believed the 335d was quicker! Never had any trouble and beat them all. Hence why I was thinking I was going to leave disappointed.... I only got one single run in due to the weather and guess what I raced... A bleedin re-mapped 335d. The guy had never dragged before and I offfered a load of advice considering i did over 150 runs in my 335d when i had it but the nice chap fluffed it and did a 14.1@103.98mph. I did a 13.3@106.5mph which IM absolutely chuffed with. I hit the limiter in 3rd also annoyingly (only for a split second). When I used to go most M3's would be doing 13.7-14.0@103-104mph so I am very pleased with the 13.3@106.5mph which indicates a strong motor!!

Well done Carl, good to see the old boy still has it in him. That's a very good time
My best time (for enjoyment, not speed) at the Pod was when I met you there...your enthusiasm for the place and eeking out those split seconds is just infectious! Still can't believe how seriously you took it but let me tell you, as an M3 driver (and V8 one at that) to be consistently beaten by pesky denzils is extremely frustrating! At least my C63 vs. DXB was rather more successful for me - I can't remember the time but it proved the AMG's straight line prowess - I just wish I could have found an M3 to show up Last edited by Palmnuts; 05-06-2012 at 02:06 AM.. |

I did 13.0 & 109mph in my e46 M3 few years back at Crail.
As for my 335d, I never took it on the strip but I'm thinking it would've been a huge challenge to match that.

I never had any trouble with M3's in the Denzil on the strip or road. I think due to the M3's power delivery and lack of torque means you really need to be on the boil for it to be quick. Shift even 200rpm to early and your down on power. Im surprised as anyone Oli really dude. Didnt think for one minute that I'd bang that out in a single run. Gutted I hit the limiter and that I only got the one run.

It was actually when I did that time....I wish I went after getting it remapped, power pulleys, CAI and full miltek exhaust with cell cats.
