that's interesting because this exact car seems to fit the bill of the 3 series 4-banger diesel that a CA at long beach bmw was telling me was coming here in the next couple of years

I would buy one in a second. We need a car here in the US that gets that kind of mileage but is also fun to drive and luxious. BMW would sell a ton of these in the USA.

The germans don't get it. Audi should sell the A4 4cyl diesel, mercedes the C220 cdi, and BMW the 320d. They would sell a lot of these cars. Instead they import these overpriced 6cyl diesels. Who wants a 55k e320 bluetec?

People like my mother. They don't care how much it costs, just want headline grabbing MPG numbers and similar power.

It will be nice if it gets here. I'd probably trade in my 328i even though I am happy with it. Did I read that article right? It is turbo charged?

all modern diesels are turbo charged.

Oh and, in my eyes they brought the 335d to change the perception of Diesel Cars in the US Market. I would be betting my right leg that we will see more diesels before the MY is over.

btw: I drove a 118d for three month and it was all I ever need.

Yes, many of you say youwould buy one, but how much would you pay for one? If the 320d or even better the 323d came with a base price of $37k would you buy it? What about the 123d/120d. Would you pay $35k for that car? I remember when people wanted the 1 series and choked when the 135i came out for $35k w/no options. Same thing when the 335d based ~$3k over the 335i.

Well they would have to price it appropriately... I don't see why it has to cost more than a 328i. Pricing is an integral part of marketing... :-)

However, we're looking to purchase a car in the next couple months. The point, BMW should've had this car here two years ago.

This is a diesel that BMW should bring into the US.

I don’t think it is the Germans. It is their North American management, particularly their marketing departments.

All of the frustrations that I have had with my German car owning experiences have had their roots not in the mother country, but it their North American Management and their Detroit marketing mindsets.

The Germans need to realize the blindingly obvious—their North American customers are their customers because they want cars that are designed in the European manner. This customer base is a minority, but it is not small. So BMW (and MB and VW): save some money, save your brand and put some of your North American management on short leashes with choker chains. Fire the rest. We want your cars, not Americanized, basterdized mush that has been focus grouped to death.

I wish BMW would offer more in the way of diesels. I actually think I would consider one if it came in a MT.

Emissions...BMW probably can't get these engines 50 state legal w/out UREA, but you'd think if VW can do it then so can BMW.

Meh... have you ever punched the accelerator pedal on a 335d? If I had to make a choice -- 335d FTW. But I would have no problem if both the 335d and 330d were offered.

I am getting a 328 in a couple of months and just know the 320d is going to be announced within a few months after purchase. The 320d would be my first choice in a 3 series.
If it is announced, maybe I'll just sell the 328 and do another ED on the diesel.

I feel vindicated by all the positive responses here. There must have been more substantial obstacles to importing the 320d than the NA dealers and their idiotic mantra that BMWs are luxury cars and must have 6 or 8 cyl engines.

Think about it: the 320d/X3d gets 50+mpg, and yet provides all the safety, luxury, performance, room, & status that 98% of USA buyers want. They just need to be educated, kind of like back in the 60's when Japanese cars had the stigma of being "cheap."

Sometimes you need to take risks. Admittedly there were huge political hurdles in the past, but presumably our politicians have seen the damage that maintaining subsidies for producing 2.5 ton SUVs has for our national interests. What a different situation we would be in if Americans were driving cars like the 320d made by Ford, GM, et al.

We own a 2009 Z4 35i and I will buy a 320d if it is imported to the US - even if the base price approaches 335d territory as long as the amenities are similar!

This is more mpg than the Lexus HS250 4 banger hybrid. BMW should bring this over stateside.

I think its not the Germans, its the stupid american marketeers hired as BMW USA managers, who are bragging every day that they are the best marketing people because this is where USA excels, when in fact I have never seen a more restricted and crippled market than the USA market. US citizens are just prisoners of some games played by incompetent marketing people. They don't care about what the customers want, they only care about how to cut costs. If only someone could evaluate the immense damage some of these manager have done by not selling in the US the best and most economical cars that the world has to offer, while in turn talking about "green", "blue" and low fuel consumption...
