Just Ordered A V1

So I finally did it- I ordered the Valentine 1. I've been researching for months, and after all the suggestions of many members, I finally bit the bullet and paid a pretty insane amount for what appears to be the best on the market. Now, for you V1 owners, I've got a question.

I understand that because it's so sensitive, it gives quite a few false alarms. I've heard that you can reprogram the V1 to disable the X band, which is the primary source of these false alarms. Has anyone done this? Is it recommended, or should I just leave it alone?

Thanks guys!

not to hijack this thread, but if you hardwire the unit, can it still be taken away with you when you're not in the car? (to prevent possible break-ins since it is worth $400)

Disabled it myself. No one uses X in NY.

so it's something like those radios that just pop out and you can stick it in your pocket?

from what I understand, you can take it out- unplug the main power from the V1, and slide it off the mount, or take the whole mount off. Members have posted pictures with their v1's hardwired from the outside, and it's pretty concealed because the rear view mirror is there, so nobody tends to look there. I think I'll just leave mine up unless I'm in an extremely sketchy environment.

well, i try not to push my luck, as i have none. and from other people's experiences i found that it doesn't matter where you are, if there is an asshole or a thug walking by and he just craves that V1 of yours, he'll break your window, take it and vandalize your interior to spit in your face on top of it.

Vlad.

The wire is pretty much, if not, a phone cord. It clicks out. The radar detector clicks out of the mount.

Ie, you can have the detector off the windshield in about two seconds flat..

To the OP: I have not encountered any jurisdictions using X band in the past few years. Maybe if you are in the middle of the country going through a town with a population of 100. Your call though. I have it off completely..

One more off-topic question for the OP:

How do you like the Xenesis fogs? From reading around, looks like most people who have them like them, and think they match well. My question is output. Do they put out equal, or better than equal, intensity than the stock? I've been eyeing these, but I don't want them if they are not as bright (don't light up as much road) as stock. Thanks..

I'm quite pleased with the xenesis. I ordered them because of the look, not the light output. They match the stock xenons pretty well IMHO. As far as actual light output, I think they're pretty bright. I didn't do a side by side comparison for brightness- all I did was for color. Overall, I really do like them, and have recommended them to many members- of course, most don't really care about light output. You could always get them, and if you don't like them, sell them in the marketplace. They'd go pretty quickly.

BTW, thanks everyone for the opinions on the V1 X band. I think I'll turn it off.
