Most of the time F1's boring, so I won't be losing sleep.

F1 isn't boring....that's the last thing it is thanks to Drs and pirelli. Look at Germany last week or Canada.....rest my case.

Anyway this news is Pish Cannie believe the bbc are trying to put a spin on this by announcing it as good news! Average man being squeezed further financially.

On a more positive note gives me an excuse to go to the pub now and atleast itv didnae get they're hands on it....to much action now for ad breaks!

there will be 100 breaks during the build up and post coverage but nothing during the race itself hopefully.

no doubt during qualifying it'll be an ad break inbetween every session as there's a nice 5min window to ram shit down our throats between Q1/Q2 and Q2/Q3

I posted a small tirade to fb on this subject...

What the f*ck BBC. The one thing you were good for (F1) and you've announced a deal to show *HALF THE RACE* live?!? What the f*ck. It seems I'm going to have to bite the bullet and pay for sky sports.. More money to Murdoch. Very very unimpressed.

It's worse for me. I'm on Virgin media. I pay per sky sports channel. IE I don't get "sky sports"; we'd have to buy sky sports 1, then sky sports 2.. etc.

so if I have to buy these channels to watch F1 I'm looking at about another £30 a month!!!!! To get let me think ONE race most likely as its a 50/50 split.

F1 viewing figures will drop through the floor because of this. Some of the BBC viewers will give up following F1 actively due to not getting to see all races whilst those viewing on sky will always be very very low as there aren't that many subscribers and this amount just won't increase substantially due to my logic above.. £15-30 PER RACE is not good value if it's the only reason you'd take a sky sports subscription.. 10m average will become I guess 6 at most over the course of a season.. And drop further the following year also I guess.

Ecclestone is a greedy little troll and his time has passed. Surely he should be swept under the same carpet as Max Mosley at this point before he does any more damage to the FIA...

Finally the fact that the BBC can try and put a positive spin on this "We are delighted bla bla bla" is pathetic. Pathetic. It's a massive loss to the channel and a huge dissapointment to the majority of license payers.

Grrr...

Eh did I watch the same race? Hamilton didnae lead for most of the race.....there was less than 4 seconds between the top three for most of the race and they all lead at some point!

Funny you don't mention Canada. ...Button wins from the back of the field....really boring to watch all those overtakes in the wet!

You may have had an argument about boring during the schumacers wonder years but your arguments about 8 years too late.

And anyway, If its so boring why are sky paying so much for the rights?

I'll tell you why cos audiences have never been higher!

A trend which sky has already made sure won't continue. Applause.

Hey Creepy where did your post about Hamilton leading most of the race go hmm?

Agree about Bernie the guys a greedy wee twat with far too much influence on the sport.
Hopefully you guys are right about viewing figures dropping but the problem is were stuck with this arrangement till 2018!
Sky ain't daft tho bet the bbc don't have most of the June July races so sports fans need a full years subscription to sky sports. Sky probably loose a fair amount of business over these months when the footballs over.

Read that Monaco, silverstone and the last race of every season will be on the Bbc tho. Just really annoying that Bbc has become a victim of its own success.....the last three years coverage has been immense.

I retracted it 10 mins before your reply, due to race quote inaccuracies. I stand by F1 being boring though. But can understand some liking it, if they have yet to experience proper racing.

having said that, I used to watch F1 in the Senna/Prost/Mansell days and it pisses all over the current version. I watched the new Senna documentary the other day and nowadays, all the drivers are so dull

Fair enough. Honestly tho mate watch Hungary on Sunday. If the mclaren and ferrari are as competitive as last week should be a good race.
Hopefully we get a Hamilton alonso rematch and Hamilton can make alonso look stupid again. Lewis is an absolute genius of a driver. ..Imagine him in a red bull.

Same here, todays F1 is so sterile, the technology (which I admire greatly BTW) has taken the interaction of the driver out, to a large extent.

Races are now won/lost on a wheel nut falling off or staying out with a particular set of tyre for two laps too many.

How so?

There's no driver aids whatsoever. No TCS, No ABS. It's actually made it 20 times MORE involved for the driver than even 10 years ago. You just need to see Schumi attempting to adapt to all the buttons he has to push now to see that... changing wing angle, brake bias, engine map all on the fly multiple times per lap whilst travelling in excess of 200 mph for 90mins. My head can't even compute that level of neurone activity to be honest.. Which is why most races are won or lost now on concentration issues / driver error rather than reliability as it used to be (again I'm thinking towards the end of the schumi era.. IE when the McLaren was consistently faster than the ferarri but would explode and throw hakkinen into a wall for no reason rather than finish the race)

I think most people swho say F1 is uninvolved or boring are those who don't actually bother giving it a chance. It's like a soap opera though a little bit: You need to stick with it and understand how the team and driver dynamics is changing through the course of a season.. Otherwise if you dip in for half a race twice a season of course you won't enjoy it so much, non?

There is of course (not that I'm suggesting you are one of them) also the kind of participant that only watches racing to see accidents.. So that rules F1 out for more and more people due to increased reliability and the strictest marshalling and enforcement of penalties that I remember.

Correct, and the lap times have hardly changed as a result of removing these aids, you can't me that's down to the drivers. Compensated by technology in other areas, would be where I’d put my money.
