335d (2010) gearbox question

What is the maximum safe torque / BHP to put through the gearbox on a 2010 335d ?

I am looking at the Evolve tune and it is higher output than most at 350BHP and 730NM (538 ft lbs)

Stock 6HP28 - 650 N-m, or 480 ft-lbs.

580NM is standard torque. There is very little safety margin in the design then. That rules out me getting bothe the DMS or the Evolve tune then as they are between 710 and 730 NM

I believe we have a ZF 6HP28 with an additional letter revised that gives us close to 550ftlbs of torque.

I concur with this. It's the same trannie that's in the 5 series (depending on manufacture date, mind you...I believe the 2010's got the upgraded transmission, whereas the 2009's had the old one).

Feel sorry for my 6MT! 560NM limit and I'm already pushing 520NM stock!! Very little room for tuning without Steptronic.

Not trying to start up an internet war in our beloved diesel section, but I *think* our tranny is rated at 700 n/m.

Check out this document, which uses the promotional pitch from ZF; it describes the 'updated" 6 speed, which is what we have (at least in later model d's): http://www.obitet.gazi.edu.tr/techno...F%20SHIFTS.htm

hmm, you might be right. I know a JBD 335d just gets to the max torque of the transmission. so thats like 525ftlbs which is a little over 700nm. So yeah its about that., no internet war started lol
