Hmm mine worked tho... I have a 06 325i with halogen headlight... And I changed it to the P90 projector from DEPO... But that shouldn't affect anything tho....

I think I have to code it into my car before it will work, looking into it.

Well like I said, the dash does indicate it but that is it. There is another thread on the euro switch and people say that on the 09 E9x model this feature only worked if you have the xenon lights.
From a suppliers website; This headlight swtich w/ rear fog light switch fits: 2006+ E90 3 Series Sedan including BMW 325i, 325xi, 330i & 330xi 2007+ E92 3 Series Coupe including BMW 328i, 328xi, 335i & 335xi 2007+ E93 3 Series Convertible including BMW 328i & 335i 2008+ E82/E88 1 Series including BMW 128i & 135i coupe & convertible 2008+ E9x M3 sedan, coupe & convertible *** (All of the above cars must be equipped with Xenon/HID headlights, foglights, and rain sensor for this switch to be compatible). http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-18...-1-series.aspx The switch mod was tested on my 09 e90 Halogen and it did not work.

Just completed the mod, it was a piece of cake! Thx
By the way, my 2011 E93 had the white piece in there already so I just needed to cut the tabs and put it back together. |

Just finished the mod, hardest part was getting the trim off. The left side was VERY tight & stubborn, and I was afraid of breaking it. Eventually, I was able to work it out, and after that it was very straightforward.
My '11 E90 had both white pieces, so all I had to do was to cut off the tabs. I had read in the forums that the rear fog lights only worked if the frontfogs were on, but that is not correct - front and rear are completely independent, and they also work if the headlight switch is in AUTO if the headlights are on. Thanks for the great info!!! |

My '11 E90 had both white pieces as well, so all I had to do was to cut off the tabs. I completed the mod on my 2011 328xi and it is has w/xenon lights. I have the rear fog light indicator on the dash, but that is it.

Success! Taking off the dash parts were easy, Just work slow and it will start to pull forward/straight out.
Above all, use a very light touch when bending those clips around! One question, Does anyone know if the same holds true for a 2009 E60 528i? I guess I could just take it apart and see.. thanks again |

UPDATE, turns out it did work I was working in the sun and did not see it,
Cheap free mod and easy to do, saves you the money for a switch you don't need.

Just did this tonight in about 10 minutes - awesome. Trim and switch removal was easy with a set of plastic trim tools. My 02/2007 328i did not have the white piece so I had to fashion it.
I found the perfect pair of items to form the plunger. An orange marette was used to form the shaft. The narrow end fits perfectly into the backside of the switch cap. Don't press it in too hard or it will expand the switch cap and start to bind the action. For the base which actually presses the switches I used a self-adhesive silicone bumper which was the perfect diameter to fit in the space available and depress both of the contacts on the PCB: The self-adhesive nature holds it perfectly to the open end of the marrette/wire nut and allows it to be placed slightly off center which is required to fit in the housing. I trimmed the tabs on the switch cap using a pair of small side cutters after using two small screwdrivers to release the cap from the switch unit body. The action of the modded switch feels absolutely identical to the factory switch. My PCB did not have the LED required to illuminate a genuine rear fog switch cap but the SMD pads were there. On my 02/2007 Canadian model the operation is as follows: - with lights off, no fog lights can be turned on - with parking lights on (plus DRLs for me) I can turn on the rear fogs if the front fogs are already on - with full low beam lighting on (xenons for me) you can operate the front and rear fogs completely independently - with full high beam lighting on (bi-xenons for me) both fogs continue to operate independently and remain illuminated. (Of course in real fog, the only time you should be using them, you wouldn't be running xenon high beams and expect to see anything) Every vehicle I've had since 1993 switches off the fogs when the high beams are engaged, even one that had a two-lamp/dual filament system. I was a little surprised to find that the fogs continued to operate with high beams on. I don't know if halogen cars, or non-bi-xenon cars (if any exist) would work the same way since I believe it's against the rules to have more than 4 main bulbs illuminated. I would love to be able to code it so that only one rear fog lamp illuminated but leaving the graduated braking lighting unaffected. North American drivers seem to be generally challenged enough without confusing rear fogs for brake lights. I wonder if my dad's 2011 F10 535xi is built the same way.... |
