(DIY) Replace E90 2009 Auto Selector Lever Handle w/Walnut
Since many have talked about how to change the Selector Lever, I decided to add pictures to show the process.
Step 1: I put the Selector in Neutral (reason is you have more leverage to pull up on lever and also less chance of slamming you hands into the dash). Step 2: I used a microfiber cloth for grip and for cushion in case I hit myself in the face when it can off. Step 3: Pulled straight up (it took some work but was able to do it while sitting in the driver seat). The lever comes off as one piece which is nice. Step 4: Slide new handle into place (make sure it lines up straight with the console) then just push down with some weight and you are done. Step 5: Test new handle to make sure it works and now enjoy the new look of your console with the Walnut Handle. |

Did you have to start the engine to put the shift knob in neutral? Or can u just press the brake (with the engine off) and put the shift knob in neutral?

You don't even need to put the car in Neutral. Just leave it in Park. |

Lever Stuck
God almighty, I put the car in neutral and pressed the button and even sat on the center console to get leverage...no luck. That thing feels like it was welded onto the transmission stick. Almost got a hernia trying to pull it off. I don't want to risk destroying my gear selection mechanism so until I find out more about this situation...I am doomed to stay with my polished metal version.
Anyone have problems like mine trying to pull it off? Thanks in advance. VT |
