VIC - Winton Raceway Fun Day May 8th
The next Winton fun day is coming up on May 8th:
http://www.wintonraceway.com.au/drive/fun-days Will be good to see some other BMWs there. I went last time in July and even with heavy rain I had a lot of fun. The day only costs $65 for driver or passenger and is organized in 30 minute sessions alternating between driver and driver+passenger sessions. Notes: - You need a helmet, get one with the AS1698 sticker. I bought a motorbike helmet as they are much cheaper than motorsport helmets. - You need long sleeve shirt, pants(not shorts) and enclosed footwear. No flammable clothing (cotton preferred) - No need for cams license - No need for fire extinguisher - If you have an N54 engine, make sure all the maintenance is up to date, weak stuff WILL break at the track! If in doubt, try a more conservative map to avoid overheating. - Stock brake pads will begin to fade after around 2-3 hot laps on a dry, clear track. Better, more track ready pads should help this. - Cooling might be an issue on some cars. If you insist on running aggressive tunes you will probably run into very high temps. Might want to invest in an additional oil cooler or better ducting (deleting fogs) - Bring your factory tow hook and fit it before going through scrutineering. If you spin off the track and need to get recovered it will stop them from having to hook onto your control arms and potentially damaging them - Might want to think about a mount for a camera if you want some cool footage. It's good to review yourself afterwards and you have a chance to improve. I made a custom mount that clamps onto the headrest. Works well with a Xiaomi Yi action camera. The 1080p image quality is pretty good and its less than $100. Audio recording quality sucks though. Can post pics of the setup if people are interested. Make sure you fill up on petrol on the Hume at one of the big petrol stations, a lot of the rural stations don't carry 98 or E85. I would probably skip E85 mixing as it is a long drive and you don't really need more power on a tight track like Winton. Note your insurance won't cover you on these days but as long as you don't drive like a dickhead you should be fine. Just overtake on the straights when it is safe, and keep a safe distance when following someone who doesn't know what they're doing. If its your first time, just concentrate on learning the track and taking the ideal racing line, don't be a hero and go all out. If there is enough interest we can maybe meet up north of Melbourne and drive up to Winton together. It is around a 2.5 hour drive from Melbourne on the Hume. It is a good idea to go early if you want to score a good parking spot in the covered areas and set up a garage. If we go as a group then it would be good to bring a set of tools/jack/refreshments etc. Maybe meet up in Northcote at 6:00am and drive up to Winton together? Meet at Coles Express Dalton Road Thomastown at 5:45AM for a strict 6AM start. If you are late, just meet up at Winton Route link: https://www.google.com.au/maps/dir/C...88!1m0!1m0!3e0 Post your interest here if you are keen

Yep, sorry for the late post, but I only found out it was on today. Chances are it'll be pretty empty track because it wasn't on the calendar a few months ago. Should be awesome to test out my new suspension setup!

Mother's Day boys. Don't forget about your poor mum.
She'll be waiting at home for her beloved son to take her out to brunch/lunch/dinner while you're going out drifting... |

The tow hook is never attached normally. You have to remove a cover and thread it in by hand. It is located in the boot in the toolkit.

Bring your wives to the track, will be a good day! Can even let them ride shotgun and impress them by spinning out into the gravel.

How strict are they about sound levels,
(Noise: all vehicles must have an effective muffler fitted to the vehicles exhaust system in a manner which will reduce the engine noise. Maximum noise level permitted is 90dBA.) No way my car would be less than 90dBA |

90dBA measured from the side of the track. Lol trust me, your car would be whisper quiet compared to most of the stuff running there.

Wish I could go to the track with you guys.
I'm going on the 8th to hidden valley. I need bigger oil coolers to go hard. It will still be fun doing a few wots and using the lsd around the corners hanging with the v8s and turbo guys. |

I've also been getting a fuel pickup issue when the tank is below half so I'll be sure to keep the tank full with my fuel container.
