Change tranny fluid (Yes or No) ?

I have a 335 with 117,000kms on it now (or 72,000 miles). Manual transmission.

It's not as notchy as my previous 328, but I would like to change the tranny fluid anyways.

Current gen bimmers doesn't have a way to test the tranny fluid without going under. Should I change it ?

You have an MT. It's actually service-able. It's an hour of labor plus fluid. Why not?

Why not do the rear diff while you are at it?

I've heard that changing the tranny fluid should be done regularly. If not, it shouldn't be touched at all. Since I am the second owner of the car, I have no evidence that the tranny fluid was ever done.

I am also siding with doing it regardless.... thanks!

This is for auto trans. Manual needs regular service.

What you've heard is misguided urban legend for AUTOMATIC transmissions.

^ When you change the original (magical) fluid installed at the factory, all the pixies get loose and it never works the same again.

But you definately need to change the side flasher fluid at least every 3 years.

Thanks, good to know. Any particular brand/type you guys use? I've asked the dealership and they won't tell me what type until they see the tranny.

I've used Redline MT90 in the past on another car with good success.

Redline MTL or Amsoil MTF should be suitable (and on the thicker side for best bearing/gear protection). If shifts are a little too tough (no complaints from me, even in mid-winter) you could use Redline D4 or D6 but it's not my first choice.

Why are you thinking no? __________________ If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger
