Budget brake upgrade 335d

Considering a very simple upgrade of front brakes by utillizing Range Rover rotors. Size is the same as M3 (360X30), but a one piece design which put these at the cost of OEM replacements rather than the more expencive 2 pieces:

Hole patern and center bore is same, however the Range Rover rotor "ID" maintain a constant diameter as the OEM BMW rotor start with same ID as RR but increases to a larger ID diameter (2 step design).

I do not see any obvious drawback(s) by selecting the Range Rover rotors others than making a bracket to support the larger OD. Anyone tried this solution and want to share experience?

Thanks
Jarle

How is this gonna make any difference without changing the swip area of the caliper? All you are doing is adding extra unsprung weight.

Those TRW-DF4792S are rear rotors I think (going solely by the drum design to accommodate parking shoes) If in deed is rear is also thinner and not designed to operate on the front. The bolt pattern and the hub opening are not the only dimensions you need to worry about. Is the rotor height that is probably more important. Too high/deep and will hit on the tie rods and control arm ball joint. Too short/shallow and the caliper will hit the spokes on the rim. Is not possible to have this work with the stock calipers even with an adapter/braket. The difference is 12mm or 6mm per side. So braket to offset the caliper only 6mm will have to be too small. Although, if done/completed the car will stop little better because the rotation at the OD on the rotor is slower and the pads will have easier time stopping the rotation I think the difference will be so negligible to justify the effort building the setup. You are better of investing in better pads, rotors, brake fluid and braided lines (if you have not done thatt already)
