Why 225/45 and not 225/40?

I haven't had mine mounted yet, but I bought blizzaks in 235s all around to go on my 189's. I heard even 235's will be stretched a little on the rears. Thats what I've heard, may not be true? I don't know much about winter run flats though.

235/40R18 will also work.

I have 225/40 all around on my 189's. Getting them put on right now, will post pics of what they look like. Many are running that setup here no problem.

Please do post photos. I'm curious to see how far the rear rims extend beyond the tire sidewall. I know it's only nominal, but I was told your rear rims are more susceptible to curbing/damage etc.

I have 235/40R18s on my 162s which are the same exact sizes as the 189s. Fit perfectly, rears a tiny bit stretched but nothing to worry about.

Unfortunately those of you fitting 225s on stock rear staggered rims are nuts

Ok, maybe not nuts, but in fact you better not hit a curb or something that stiff on the road. You run an elevated risk of blowouts and rim damage. I know I went cheap on my 330ci rims and had 205 michellins all round on sports rims. I had to replace the rears after one nasty weekend. Lesson learned. Oh, it is the only time I can recall getting stuck in snow. I had to use the stock front ZSP conti spot as its what the spare had on. Car just did a one legged spin all day long. To balance everything, I got wide Michellins out back. I use all seasons on the 330, but I bought dedicated Blizzarks for the 335, because I think its got a little too much toque for all seasons to be optimal.
