Well its that time of the year again for the 2009 European Car of the Year.

The Car of the Year is an international award, judged by a panel of senior motoring journalists across Europe. Its object is to acclaim the most outstanding new car to go on sale in the 12 months preceding the date of the title.

The Jury for the Car of the Year 2009 consists of 59 members, representing 23 European countries. National representation on the Jury is related to the size of the country's car market and its importance in car manufacturing. France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Spain each have six members; other countries, proportionally fewer.

The BMW X6 is nominated for COTY.

The complete list of nominees:

Alfa Romeo MiTo
Audi A4
Audi Q5
BMW X6

the win will be between Volkswagen Scirocco and Alfa Mito. And Mito will win. Watch this space!

The X6 is a joke as car of the year, and cars like 7 series never win.

EDIT: kushtrimp, you said same thing, lol, I guess we know how these competitions go in europe. A supermini usually wins with something nice coming second. From that list, Mito happens to be cool as well, while Scirocco is so bad ass i actually have thoughts of getting it after the bimmer (blasphemy I know, but I had 2 VW before my two bimmers and they didn't dissapoint!).

For the record, here we go:

Is the X6 technically a car?

I mean the thing weighs 5000lbs.

I would go as far to say the X6 is one of BMW's worst designs ever.

I completely agree. That roofline is disgusting on that lower body X5 portion.

I don't see BMW selling many X6s.

As a matter of fact, I have yet to see one on the road.

The X6 is quite cool car, for two. The rearseat is made for children, 'cause I'm 186cm tall and I can't sit there as a lack of head space. And I have to admit that Italians can surely desing a nice looking car. Look at that Mito, it looks stunning compared to the rest of small cars For example, BMW's 1-series is one piece of shit when its looks is compared to that one piece of art ^^

My guess:
1) MiTo
2) Scirocco
3) XF

Although if Fiat's 500 was on the list I'd make it my #1.
