Audi launches 2014 TDI models with hilarious spot

Quote:
Audi has unveiled a set of new television spots that seek to continue the company's proselytizing of diesel-fueled luxury cars to the American pubic. With TDI versions of the A6, A7, A8, Q5 and Q7 available for its 2014 model year range, this is a subject that's obviously near and dear to the hearts of Audi marketers.

The first commercial, The Station, makes a play on the fact that many car buyers in the US don't associate luxury cars (in this case an A8) with those green-handled pumps at the "gas" station. The second commercial, Range, is a lot more informative (albeit less fraught with screaming and slowmo), discussing just how easy it should be to find a diesel fueling station in your long-range TDI before you need to fill up.

Continue on below for a look at both new commercials, or to have Audi explain them to you in great detail, via its press release.

I'm sure this has happened to all of us.

I think these are pretty good. Have personally had a few discussions at service stations, nothing quite so dramatic. Summer 2012 we had a local gasoline shortage due to a very bad storm with power outages, and when a guy saw me filling up at a station that was out of gasoline he asked me if that pump was working. "sorry, this is diesel" to a puzzled look.

Am in Italy now where there are many instances of the objects of our desire in diesel drag. 118d, A6 Avant, et al, ad nauseum. I on the other hand am renting a 1.2L Fiat 500 gasser, perfect for parking over here.

Saw it last night and I liked it. Hasn't that happened to all of us at least once...

I'm really looking forward to the diesel resurgence here in 'Murica!

Boo hoo hoo. I have yet to have the station experience (although I've talked to a couple people when they asked: how do I like it?)

Love the 2011 Super Bowl BMW Diesel commercial that shows off our 335d. Look for it on you tube.

That one's definitely in the top 10 of car commercials!

ch-ch-ch-chaaaanges!

I always liked that commercial.

However.... When it comes time to replace my 335d, an A6 TDI will be at the top of my list.

Maybe even a Q5 since I have another kid on the way, and I'm glad they put the 3.0TDI in the Q5 instead of the 2.0.

I'm feeling the same way. My 2009 335d is totally paid off and only has 45,000 kms (miles) on it. I've also thrown lots of money into the car with upgrades so I want to enjoy it for another 2-3 years before the "itch" gets to me.

For me it's more about change. Came from a 2006 Jetta TDI to my BMW 335d. I would still consider a BMW 2-3 years from now as well.

I plan on going in to check out the car in a week or two at an Audi dealership here in Toronto.

There is one thing I really don't like about Audi's.
They've been making AWD cars for ages, yet there is a lack of a roof rack fastening system.
BMW and MB have it.

Hmmm, in my case I'd never have a use for that. Still strange that they wouldn't offer it though.

Haha.. Nice. Same thing has happened with me as well. I was pumping the Diesel into the car and suddenly the Gas pump makes beeping noise and the pump stops. The lady on the cash register almost yelled through the intercom - SIIIR you are putting Diesel in your BMW!!!!! I just smiled and replied - Its a Diesel and she was like.. really? i never knew BMW made 3series diesel cars!
