Anyone have a cheat sheet handy? I couldn't find "Circuit City" under Electronics once it was ridiculous! I tried Electronics, computers, games, got zilch! And I haven't taken the time to tinker with it to figure out where Circuit City is for example so a cheat sheet would be nice...

Perhaps a list of the categories and its related items?

That's a great idea, I would like to second the request (please drfluid? ). A spreadsheet of some sort would be very helpful!

It's almost impossible to know which store is in which category, but hopefully this spreadsheet would help a little to guess...

I merged couple categories in NAV POI.
  1. Who needs a glass/windows shop or Lumber merchandise while driving?
I put them all together in one category.
Home depot can now easily be searched without guessing which category it might be sitting. Actually, there are lots of duplicate listings spread out across several categories, but still it's waste of DVD space. Better save some for adding new POIs.

  2. Collapsed similar categories in one, but added couple more; Apple Store & Borders for a faster search.

  3. Apparle: Does it really need to be categorized as 'Men's store' or 'Women's Store,' etc.... as it is so in the NAV?
Simply merge all of them into one; 'Clothing & Shoes.'

But, still no Kragen, Sorry...

I guess you must have found the circuit city by now, but Circuit City, Best Buy and Radio Shack, etc are located in [Cameras and Electronics] AND [Computer Hardware and Software] categories. Lots of POI lists are redundant.

I want to merge all the shopping categories. After poking around I believe I understand how to do this by hand... but I have no idea what format the IDX files are in. Any pointers???

IDX files are generated with the pearl script.
No clue what format they are in.

There is a perl script to create new categories for POIs.
You give the perl script a csv file with the poi data and the script will generate
the IDX and URL files.

Do a search for "adding POIs" and you will find the thread with instructions on
how to do this.

Sweet, found the perl script that generates an IDX from the URL file. I wanted to merge the "Shopping" categories into a single searchable list for a long time. I absolutely HATE trying to figure out which of the categories a store might be under!

I am burning a new disc now...will try it out soon...

Well, I'm not having much luck burning a custom disc. The original ISO I downloaded works great, but not when I customize it. iDrive just says "insert navigation DVD" and never changes from there. The "original" DVD works great and is recognized a few seconds after I insert it.

I am burning using Nero. I have tried burning using the "DVD-ROM" and "DVD-ROM UDF/ISO" formats. I made sure the volume label was the same as the original disc. I also set it to "ISO Level 2" as per another thread. No go.

Looks like disabling Joliet might be the key...will try when I get home.

Yep, that was the key. Turned off Joliet and now the disc is recognized by the car. Unfortunately my custom category is all fouled up. It appeared correctly in the menu but when I searched it showed lots of weird entries. I suspect the IDX file is messed up.

Ok, I tried the perl script that converts URL files to IDX files. I tried it on one of the URL files included on the base navigation DVD. The IDX file it generates is not the same as the IDX file on the DVD. It's a bit smaller.

Any suggestions???? Anyone???

In a couple months, I guess you won't have to worry about trying to find Circuit City

Hopefully no more cheat sheet or cursing the meaningless POI categories..
Actually I found a lot of duplicate infos in different sub categories.

Anyway, I could use some sleep now.. So tired.
Thank god. I use my iphone to find stores more often than my idrive screen. For some reason the only way I can locate any best buy stores are to look for it in like camera and photo in the gift shopping section lol.
