Gotta love it.

My DD is 225k and nothing has been replaced yet except the starter motor, can't wait to see my 335i hit 200k.

VW makes such a big deal about 100k and 200k (watch the Super Bowl ad tomorrow). I guess they should. My sis in-law got 8k before her 2013 Passat TDi lost all its coolant. That's some plant in TN.

Seems to be the rule and not the exception these days with VWs. It's sad because they are such nice cars as long as they are working.

What was nuts was they brought it in as they had to add 1/2 gal of coolant, and were told that's normal when the weather is cold. 1 week later no coolant at all. If the dealership did their job, it would have saved VW some money on the warranty repair.

Again, they have great commercials, but that's about all.

Agreed, the commercials are fantastic. Hopefully the cooked motor taught them a lesson.

I am in love with my 08' 335xi ... I have every intention of getting her to 200,000 and this thread is making my month! (needed love since also a Bronco fan since 1984)
Should I start changing oil at 5k rather than the recommended 17K?

5K tuned, 7.5K stock.

Couldn't imagine changing at 15k.

Mileage is one thing, but hours of operation matters more IMO.

If you have 200,000 miles mostly highway, and your car over it's lifetime was run at an average of 50mph, then it worked for 4,000 hours with good cooling.

If you have a 100,000 miles city car that was run at an average of 20mph over it's lifetime, then it worked for 5,000 hours, and ran hotter because of slower speed/stop n go traffic.

The 200,000 miles car would probably be in better mechanical shape than the 100,000 miles car in this example. Food for thought.

This is very true, especially with the water pump failures we are seeing. Myself and the other guys who have had very long-lived pumps have put the miles on them on the highway whereas the heat sink from traffic likely causes a lot of the early failures. The gaskets would also be more deteriorated and susceptible to leaks by the same token

It's really easy, only takes about 2 hours (plan on 4 for your first time doing them). Here is a DIY guide:

I'm never sitting around in traffic, really. That's what I think causes stress on the pump, the repeated heat-up/cool-down its electrics experience in a city setting. There are only two sets of traffic lights in my entire 140-mile commute so there is always significant airflow across my parts

thats good going I thought my one was the highest mileage 335i but your way ahead of me I'm 'only on 190,000 miles on my 2006 E92 335.

still going strong on its original turbos, clutch and suspension.

Had to do the water pump at 189k and the HPFP was just starting to go so swopped that at the same time (its first one).

My 2006 BY is still on the original fuel pump it is the heat that kills them, we have very cool summers here on the west coast . My local dealer stated they have never seen one fail, mind you that was 2 years ago.

Just on 188K on my 320D on stock everything apart from ABS Pump. The clutch is just starting to go, though.

I dread to think how much gas you've paid for…. I'm averaging 48mpg (US) on mine… :-)
