So I was driving pretty normal on the Parkway in NJ last night and I pressed the clutch to put it in N and as soon as I try to release the clutch it won't release it was stuck in place. So I put my toes behind the clutch pulling it out now the clutch is very hard and won't engage at all, played with it some more and it became super loose. Pulled over and turned the car off (biggest mistake) and inspected the clutch and saw some oil/fluid on the pedal. Tried to start the car and what do you know the car wouldn't start because the clutch wasn't working. What could be the problem? I'm new to MT so im very keen on what to do. Some help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sounds to be the result of a really good money shift! Take to dealer or indy, prepare for new clutch and possible transmission damage. BMWs are expensive cars to leanr to drive manual on. Best of luck.

Sorry about all the posts.. And no I drive right. I was cruising on the highway and it randomly went out! It wasn't from beating on it or anything it just happened. I'm not hard on the clutch all the time either. The car is CPO'D I'VE ONLY HAD IT FOR 2 MONTHS!!

I think the gist of the replies are going to be that there are several issues that could be a problem and you should take it to a reputable independent shop for proper diagnosis and repair. I would like to think its an exploded slave cylinder as it sounds like a pressure issue not a friction issue. We have seen that a few times on the MINI Coopers in our shops, but not on the 335i yet.

I'm towing it to a BMW dealership now. I'm really disappointed, this car only has 35k miles and the clutch is already out. Called my dealer back home and told them the situation, and of course they say it's not covered under warranty.. I'm pissed now because now I'm starting to think I was sold a car that had a worn clutch. The previous owner was a women (Not bashing women drivers) so it could've possibly been worn before I got the car..

The clutch is not necessarily worn, but the hydraulic parts that operate it may be the problem. There is a master/slave cylinder that works just like the brake pedal (without quite as much pressure), and if there's a leak or the linkage is broken, that could be the problem. THAT should be covered by CPO. A worn clutch disk would not be, but the other parts should be covered.

I agree with those saying it's a pressure issue. I had something similar happen in my old E46. Nothing like that has happened in my 335 yet but, at least to me, it sounds like a fluid pressure (i.e. lack of) that's causing this loss of control of the clutch.

I think you may have answered your own question in your post, fluid on the pedal could be a clue that your hydraulic line may be leaking or ruptured.

agree it sounds like a hydraulic issue.

In the old days, our pedals used to have a big spring attached...but they got squeeky...and were not fancy....hydraulic clutches have much better feel, til they run out of fluid....

Brought it into the stealership and they are going to inspect it tomorrow. One more thing before I left the dealer, I tried to start the car and you can hear the car trying to crank but it won't.. I have to Press the clutch hard as hell for it to even give a crank noise. Will keep you guys posted thanks!

Dunno about BMW but a $65 DIY job on my Nissan. Only diff was it happened at about 205k. The reason it was so expensive was had to use Oem, aftermarket did not fit.
