I would make him pay for it. And at least apologize who the hell would say its just a car if its.not even theirs...

I'm lucky..my friends know I'm anal about my car and are very careful. I was driving my friend and her daughter home after a movie and the daughter had popcorn. My friend grabbed the popcorn from the kid and I was like don't worry about it, if she spills it the vacuum will get it. ( Soda / ice cream have been a different story) And my friend was like "really? After you spent 6 hours detailing this thing? She'll live without the popcorn for 20 mins."

My wife (ex) decided to drive to the store but decided she wanted to drive my car, took the key didn't say a word. I hear a car that sounds really nice start up. I opened the front door and watched her drive away... I divorced her 2 weeks later. It's not that she drove my car, even thou its MY car. She's asked to drive it, I told her no, she decided to disrespect me and take it. So I still have my car, but a new girl. Yeah I'm an A**hole but I'm open about it.
Well, that escalated quickly.

I've never had a problem with people disrespecting my car. If they were to do something stupid, that's the last time they are riding with me.

it should be easier to tell ppl to stop if they're your friends. if they're your friends, they'll already know you're a car guy and that you care about your car. so when they do something that a typical person doesn't think twice about and you tell them, they'll understand. sure they might talk shit and stop, but they'll stop. and friends always talk shit to each other anyway so nothing new.

it's harder for me to tell a stranger to stop because it's too easy to get angry and then i come off confrontational... then it can easily escalate too much and i end up looking like a guy starting shit over something small. lose lose.

^ LOL!

I don't let my wife or son (5 years old) eat in my car. Not even a french fry.. They know this and wouldn't dare lol. My son used to leave finger prints on my windows. Doesn't happen anymore. =)

I don't have this problem because all of the people that I am friends with that ride in my car do respect other people's property.

I mean occasionally someone will snack on popcorn or some sort of nuts or chips and perhaps have a drink but it's no big deal for me.

The two times something "horrible" happened, both drink spills, I had nobody to blame but myself

I put shit on top of my own hood roof trunk whatever (albeit not frequently) so long as it doesn't have anything that can scratch the surface and doesn't weigh a ton so that it dents the surface, who gives a shit?

Enjoy your cars.

When I was in Key west, my oldest son took care of the cats and house. He used my car for the week. He had a physical fitness test for the police academy during the week I was gone so he used my car to go to it.
When we came back, I had to drive my other 2 home so we get in the car and wouldn't you know...red stains on the tan carpet
I guess he was drinking some energy drink and it spilled on the rug, I tried everything but the stain will just not come out

I understand your pain completely. Friends is one thing, but how do you tell your parents?!

It's a sad reality that people don't care about other peoples things. Just recently I've found two ink stains (blue and black) on my beige seats.

I had a friend once who used to fiddle with the gear stick and dash buttons whenever we were parked up. Also used to kneel on my seats when grabbing something from the car. Used to piss me off. Gave him the benefit of the doubt a few times then one day i just said "don't do that". There was a long awkward silence after that.

Tell them the same way they used to make us stop as kids.
Stop... JUST stop!
My mom started rubbing the headliner in my car, I was watching her hand (internally yelling WTF) she looked at my face and she pulled here hand down quick. I didn't have to say a word.
