When using a blower to help dry a car....

will a typical outdoor blower that one might buy at Home Depot or Lowes suffice?

Are there any specifications I should look for when buying one? I would like to spend less than $100.

Just look for a brand you like with a high MPH/CFM rating, though you really don't need a huge gas-powered one to get the job done. Last year, I bought this this electric one because it was comparatively cheap and has nearly as good MPH output as the $80+ Black & Decker or Toro ones. I only use it for drying the car and it's been more than enough for the task. Nothing fancy, but it does work well.

If you do end up with the one I have, be sure you have an extension cord. Mine didn't come with any sort of cord, you just plug the extension into the bottom of the blower.

My $39 Weed Eater is 160MPH. Some of the $80+ ones get up to 240MPH but that's overkill for drying a car I think. You should be fine with just about anything you buy.

I like that Chemical Guys blower. I assume the 110 mph is powerful enough to dry a car?

As long as your car is waxed, I'd say 150 mph is enough to dry it pretty well. I use a 230mph blower, and it's definitely overkill.

I wouldn't really suggest a blower to dry your car. I had purchased one in the past, and realized its best purpose was to get water out of cracks, wheels, etc. after I first hit it with a waffle weave. I would then spot qd certain areas where i used the blower.

Trying to dry the car with the blower only, would just move water around, never really drying, only to leave me with water spots here and there...

I suppose you're right. Disregard everything I said and get the biggest, baddest most mega bigass blower you can find. The more engines the better.

*hopes he can have his mancard back now*

I agree with JR. I use my leaf blower only for the little nooks and cranny's, as well as for my wheels. If you use the "flooding" method on your final rinse, one of the large (and high quality) mf towels will pretty much dry your entire car. Use the leaf blower AFTER you dry with the towel.

Brilliant blower from Air Control Industries

These are a U.K. company that manufactures loads of fans and blowers. They are in the U.S.A. as Air control Industries Inc.
This unit kicks out some serious pressure. They have designed stuff for loads of car companies worldwide for drying prior to and post paint.
They know their stuff.

It was designed with a different market but it works perfectly for the whole car!
Love it.
