Actually, there are attach points for jumping/charging under the hood. No need to go through the trunk.

This, IIRC they should be on the left side if you're standing in front of the car looking at the engine bay, next to the washer fluid reservoir. (I'm going from memory)

under the hood there should be a red cap on the passenger side of the engine bay next to the washer fluid bottle. take off the cap to access the positive terminal. the negative terminal is like a 1 inch metal peg that sticks out along the passenger fender near the coolant expansion tank.

Daygo1904, it is better to use the battery terminals on the battery. The Battery Tender comes with two wire harness sets: one is meant for permanent installation on to the battery terminals and the other set looks like mini jumper cables and is meant for temporary installation. Either harness plugs into the charging-side cable of the Battery Tender, so you can use either set at any time. My advice is to connect the permanent harness to the battery terminals. Using the jumper harness can lead to damage to the Battery Tender if one of the clamps falls off the jumper terminals under the hood. It sounds like you are storing the car at your parent's house, which I would be concerned of someone inadvertantly bumping into the wire coming out of the hood and accidentally disconnecting the leads under the hood an not noticing it. Also, considering you'll will be storing your car again in this manner for several years to come, just hook up the permanent set so you can plug in the Battery Tender any time you want.

To install the permanent harness do the following:

The battery is located in the trunk on the passenger side, under a cover where the car's manual should be. It is the cover that holds the tool set as well. To remove the battery cover, there is a turn screw head up in the side of the trunk that is part of the cover. Just turn the screw head (it's big and meant to be turned by hand with your thumb and forefinger). Then pull the cover towards the center of the trunk; it will kind of rotate out of place.
Attach the BLACK (Negative) Battery Tender harness lead to the negative battery terminal clamp bolt. The clamp bolt has an up-facing 10MM nut. Just remove the nut, slide the round-hole (black) terminal of the Battery Tender harness over the bolt stem and then put the nut back on the bolt and re-tighten it.

For the RED (Positive) harness lead, it's a bit more complicated. The Positive terminal of the battery has a big red plastic cover on it. The cover is large because the Positive battery cable contains a pyrotechnic device meant to sever the cable in case of a severe car accident leaving just a few vital circuits intact for door locks, lights, BMW Telematics, etc.

There are three locations on the Positive battery terminal where the red positive Battery Tender lead can be attached. The large red battery terminal cover has three small plastic doors, all marked with a "+" sign. Under any of the doors is a 10MM nut, just like on the negative terminal, which can be used to connect the red Battery Tender lead in the same manner described above. I would suggest using the actual battery terminal since it will be sending current to the battery directly and not through the pyrotechnic device, however it is the hardest nut to get to because it is in the corner of the terminal cover next to the inner fender (the left rear corner of the battery terminal cover if you are looking at it from the trunk). The easiest nut to get to is the one that connects the actual Positive battery cable to the battery terminal device. That one is in the right front of the battery terminal cover.

Whomever you have do this for you should be familiar with car repair and should have replaced a battery or two in his life prior to attempting this procedure. It’s not too complicated, but if the person you are going to have hook up the Battery Tender is a novice and not experienced with working on automotive batteries, then they may screw something up. Maybe one of our Forum members who knows how to do this can help you out (guys, he is in the Navy after all on deployment, protecting all of us here in the USA...)

The battery itself is located in the right side of the trunk. However, there are points under the hood which you can use to say, charge the battery or jump-start.

First, open the hood.
Facing the car from the front, there is a bolt-like thing sticking from your "left" side of the car, and a red tip next to the windshield washer. Those are the points.

I have a photo. The one circled in red is the (+) positive point. [remove the red cover] The one circled in black is the (--) negative point.
