What do you use at home?

I dont even know where to start or what it is called. For those who check tire pressure at home and have a way to add more air into their tires from the comfort of their house, what do you use? Do you use some sort of air compressure thingy? I hate to drive out to the gas station, deposit 75cents to add more air to the tire. What you you folks use at home?

update: I have been looking online for some info on a portable kit (like the one Josh49 has). Something that I can toss in the trunk on long trip and use at home as well. I am guessing the portable kit that uses a 12 volt will not inflate the tire that fast. So that made me think about a 120 volt garage kit that I can use for other thing beside inflating tires (like blow dirt from my engine compartment).

I used to paint cars in my past life, so I own a compressor and I purchased an air nozel like the ones at the gas stations to fill up my tires.

would a 1 gallon air compressor at wal-mart work (I mean capacity and not the nozel)? I can deal with the nozle and get an adaptor but would 1 gallon be enuf?

I would think it would work, just might take longer to fill. I've seen ads for compressors that run off of the cig lighter, so I would assume a 1 gallon tank would work, but can't validate.

I use this. It works perfectly. It's nice to have at home and bring to the track. 20-30 bucks at PepBoys..

txusa03, I think the 1 gal could work, it will kick on more to keep the PSI constance.

I use a cheapo $20 12v compressor from Sears. Works great, just can't trust the gauge that's on the thing ... have to over fill by a bit and double check/bleed out with a real tire gauge.

You Yanks have to automate everything

I keep one of these in the boot (trunk) and I've never had a problem with getting power to it

How many pumps does it take to get to the correct PSI? I guess the more appropriate question is how many PSI does 1 pump give?

It pumps it up very fast... 12V is the way to go, mine resides in my trunk and is there whenever I need it, road trips, track, anything... The pump I have is pretty big and powerful for a 12V pump. It was the SUV deluxe model (or something like that).. Pumps pretty fast IMO.

I like it a lot if you can't tell..

Another thing you can do is get a small 5 gal tank and fill it up when you get gas or buy one of the cheapo compressors to fill it. If you are just topping off your tires to set pressures or going to the track, its a perfect size and will last awhile on a fillup. I did this for years before I had my own house/garage and bought a real compressor/tank to run air tools.

I don't think I will be using any air tools so the 5 gallon compressor is too much for my needs. I also don't like the idea of filling up a 5 gallon tank. Should air be free? I hated when gas station charge $ for air when i am giving them $2+/gallon for gasoline.

I use one of these doohickeys: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...SQZ40?v=glance. It takes a while, but it gets the job done.
